UAC fundraiser

I don't know how many of you remember the fundraiser rides we did a few years back for the UAC. The rides would typically have 100 or more riders involved and we would go spend the day playing and Craig and the gang would do a brief avalanche tutorial on the hill and would then be followed up with dinner a raffle and auction. I have spoken with Craig about this and it is something we are both passionate about bringing back. Considering how late it is in the season it may not work for this year, I may be wrong, how about we work on putting something together for next year. The ride would be in the middle of January on a Saturday. This is not something I can do alone so someone needs to step up to the plate and give me a hand. We need to decide on a location for the ride that has a good variety like Soapstone, Wolf Creek Pass, Mill Hollow …, then we need a close by location we can get to do dinner and the raffle and of course donations for the raffle and auction. If there is anyone out there that wants to help put this together let me know.

This was always a blast in the past, and we need to revive it.

I would be willing to help out and I'm sure one of my buddies would as well.
As for a location, that restaurant in samak, the notch could work. I'm sure Dave the owner would be all for it.

Thanks for stepping up. Not sure the Notch is big enough but it is worth looking into.

I think wolfcreek would be a great spot. Lots of parking and im sure people wont mind driving into heber for the dinner. What would be cool is the Claim Jumper!!

Wolf Creek is a great location, we can do the training at the summit and thre is plenty of room for peeps to spread out and ride. Claim jumper may work for a location if we can get them to work with us. Jan 2013 is a good target but it will take some work and I am starting a new job so time is limited for me. Does anyone know some body that will give us some tshirts for the event?

Maybe Tri City would do something with shirts or another dealer. I know tri city donates sleds to UAC. If not them maybe another dealer. Good promo for them.

If you guys are going to the seminar on Saturday we can discuss things in full as well as with Craig. I am goin to the am seminar as well

It is great to see some peeps stepping up for this. I will put together a list of what I think we need and get it to you as soon as I can.

Thanks

Ok so here is a rough idea of what we need to do. I have included a list of the known sponsors from the 08 ride put together by Rocky Mountain Sledders.

If you have any other ideas let me know my email is sgraves@wwdb.org

I am really happy to see this thread growing and obviously want to be a big part of it. What has made event successful for us in the past is enthusiastic supporters getting the ball rolling and spearheading the effort. We want to be a big part of it, but it just doesn't work as well for us to come in and say "lets throw a big party - for us". Plus, once snow is on the ground we are pretty much redlined just trying to get forecasts out and teach classes. This group has the contacts and the credibility in the community to get people to come together for a great event.
We will stay in the loop and do everything we can to make this happen. One thing we need to jump on pretty soon is getting a FS permit if we are going to do this this year - we can do that at our end once we get a date and a location.

Thanks Paul, we will work on that asap. I was talking with Dan from Boondockers today and he suggested Feb not Jan for the event so maybe Feb 16 would work I just don't know if there are any conflicts during that time. I believe we have decided that Wolf Creek would be the ideal location but Strawberry has great parking along hwy 40 and we can head up toward Tower Mountain which is a good location also. I am planning on contacting Chad Booth to see if he is willing to get involved also.

Strawberry isnt a bad idea at all. It would be a fun ride and i bet lodge at the top of the summit would possibly help on the dinner.

I think that somewhere like Zermat or Homestead would be better for dinner then we don't have to use dining space but can use a banquet room. I like Strawbery area because we can launch from Strawberry River or Chicken Creek road, both have huge lots.

Are poker runs (or fun runs) allowed in Utah? Snowmobile Clubs are huge back home in Montana for raising money for grooming, swaying politicians to keep trails open, getting young riders involved, etc. Most of them do this by having fun runs. In five years in Utah I have not even heard of a snowmobile club...let alone an event other than the UAC Fundraisers which I have attended most if not all. I'm not sure if they are even allowed in Utah due to some of the crazy laws.

I am more than willing to help out with an event. I will be tracking this thread to see what is decided.

Yes Poker runs are allowed. As long as you arent winning money, then its ok. You can pay to be involved but cant win money, thats gambling. You can win "prizes". A poker run would be fun.

Sounds like a great idea. We could start something like this from up near Strawberry Fish Hatchery and do a loop up on the ridge and over by Strawberry Res, then back to the hatchery.

Been thinking more about a poker run and it sounds like a great idea. We could start at Strawberry River lot and loop up past Daniel Summit and up to the ridge. We could then come down by the lake and cross over Hwy 40 and go up Co-0p creek and around by Tower Mtn then back down to Strawberry river lot. The posts for picking up your card could all be tagged with GPS coordinates as well so for those that do not want to take the trail could take a back country route. This would open up the event to pretty any level of experience of rider. I don't know anything about how a poker run should work so if anyone does please let me know.
