Twisted Turbo Review

Ill start this off by saying that this may get a little long. Mainly because I want to give the most honest review of my experiences so far. Nov. 5th I stopped by Shains shop and gave him the 50% down for a pump gas kit plus a few extras to be able to run 10 lbs of boost. On the 16th or 17th I dropped by my stock head and throttle bodies. Shain told me that he was putting the kit together and that it would be ready in about a week. I asked him that in the mean time if he could email me the instructions so that I could start to read over a few thing and maybe get my sled disassembled and ready for insulation. He had them emailed to me within hours. The following week I called Shain and asked him if everything was ready yet, He told me we were waiting on just a few simple parts to finish everything up. And that he would call me back in the next day or two when it was ready. Well I think that I gave him one day and called him back because at this point I was getting excited. On the 23rd I stopped by his shop and he was putting my complete kit together. I started to go through the checklist on the kit and found that I was getting some extra parts. I asked Shain about it because I felt that I was ripping him off and he explained that he found the kit that I want to run is going to perform so much better with those extras. At this point I was blown away and I got a real understanding that he is not just selling me a kit to make a dollar off of me, he wants me to have a kit that works.

Install:
Instructions could be a little simpler, I installed the fuel pump incomplete, and instructions on wiring it was a bit confusing,I called Shain @ about 8:00 at night and he was more than willing to walk me through the steps, a shock tower vent was installed incorrectly (my fault), had to call Shain and get the sizes to drill and tap (not in instructions)

First Start Up:
Followed instructions exactly as Shain had told me, but couldn't get oil through the lines to feed the turbo. Tried calling Shain but got no answer (8 or 9 at night again) got on here and sent Hatchers a PM and he helped me through it, I just didnt know that it would take like 5 min to get the air out of the lines. got all lines hooked up and put the #s in the attitude box and everything started and ran perfect. I am running 2lbs more on fuel pressure than is instructed.

First Test Ride
09 M8 162, 100% av gas(100ll)premix ac apv 2876, 9000ft,target boost 10lbs
started up, warmed up, checked all lines no leaks. rode down the trail in and out of throttle and everything was running great, gauges reading, everything flawless, decided to try a few WOT seconds, and it would get up to about 7lbs and pop and sputter. Started turning the boost down and it started to clean up, kept turning boost down and all the sudden sled just came alive, running right around 9 1/2 10 lbs (found I had it turned up to maybe 15lbs and not the right fuel settings for that much) At that point I was able to hold it WOT and watch gauges, AFR was staying at 11.8 to 12. a buddy jumped on and was very impressed with how flawless it ran with only 30 min of tuning.

Second ride:
Sled ran perfect all day. On the way back to the trailer I got a code on the attitude box telling me it was stuck in boost mode. shut it off, started up nothing, still got the code (solid blue light always on) limped back to the trailer. Got home called Shain and Derek they both told me that the sensor got moisture on it. Shain said I could bring it in and they could re-flash it and that should take care of it. so I took the box back and told him that I would feel a lot better if he would give me a new box since the sensor had moisture. He agreed and said thats fine he can get that box repaired. Programs me a new box and Im on my way

Third Ride:
New box, 2feet of fresh powder, I started to mess with the box, made a few pulls and the sled dies, pull pull pull nothing, pour fuel in the cylinder and fires up and runs but real boggy on bottom end. Once on boost, sled rips. Shut it off and nothing, wont start again, same thing, pour fuel starts up runs but same thing every time. I head back to the truck, on the way back I noticed that the boost mode would intermittently come on, got home and went to call Shain and noticed that I already had a voice mail from him. he had a diff program that he had been working on and I needed it. I told him that I had had problems all day and so we went through all the problems I was having. Well, what I had actually had done was taken all of the fuel out of the bottom end and so there was no fuel to start up.

took sled to Shain and he put a new program in it that he had found was working much better for my setup (no buying new programs, no more cash out of pocket for his R&D just a better program). He asked me if there is a day that we could meet and go out on a test ride to make sure everything was running well. We went up farmington and did a day of tuning after about 30 min we were dialed in and he had me rip on it to see if i could get it to foul up or anything. sled ran perfect for the rest of the day. he gave my sled a good look over and gave me a few tips to watch for. have not had a chance to get out and run it again, but Shain has called me to check and make sure that I havent had any issues. (real customer service) I will keep all posted on any updates.

But so far I am very impressed with the customer service that I have received and I am positive that if I have an issue he will make it right. He stands behind his kit he has not charged me for one thing extra. He stuck to the base price and made sure that the kit is running like I was told it would

This is not a post of whose kit is better. I have no experience with other kits this is simply my account of dealing with twisted oh yeah and boost is unreal

Good review! Detailed and honest. What kind of track speed are you seeing while picking a fresh deep line on a fairly steep hill?

Awesome! Shain is a good guy, always takes care of ya, that is his first priority. The best customer service I have ever seen. He flew to Reno last night to help a guy get his sled running, how many companies do you know that will do that? Drop everything, hop on a plane and come help you....

That's pretty cool if ya ask me.

Just keep a spare box in your back pack and you should be good to go lol. My Yami buddy's who run those box's on they're kits always pack an extra.

Sounds like a pretty honest unbiased review stating actual facts... pretty cool to hear.

Glad you got a ripper you'll enjoy! I wish I lived near someone who installed something other than BD!! It'd be so nice to actually ride with the installer/ builder.

Dunatic, and I installed my R/G kit a couple weeks ago at shains shop. You could not have a better experience. I have run 7 tanks of fuel thru my sled, and not one problem. I rode my sled so hard last sunday my milage was 19 miles to 11 gallons of fuel. I would say that is pushing her pretty hard. Not even a burp. Sled fires on first pull every time. I can't put into words how pleased I am with the sled, and what good guys shain and dunatic are. Oh yeah I also got to spend the day riding with shain and his buddies.(PRICELESS).

I was a nervous wreck when putting this much cash out not being some great sled tuner, but it will blow your mind how easy it is to
to do things the right way and not have fueling issues. It literally takes a minute to tune my sled in for the day.

Backcountry, I live in gunnison,Co. Make the purchase I will help you get it installed.

From what I understand, Shain is working on putting out some new instructions for his TM8 kit, as well as others. There are some things missing from the instructions for sure.

That being said, he is always more than happy to answer questions. He has a wealth of knowledge and is more than happy to make sure his kits are running right and goes the extra mile for his customers.

Is that so?

update

Went out for a ride yesterday. everything ran awesome, messed with the fuel settings in the low and mid range just to see what kind of response i would get and ended up putting everything back to the setting that shain had put in it. rode for the rest of the day and didnt have to touch the box once. I did find that 9lbs of boost @ 9000' is all that i can get out of 100ll. Thanks for all your help shain and dunner

Is Twisted raising or lowering compression on the stock head? I ask because I'm running over 12 lbs on 100ll at 9000'+ on a 2010 w/ the stock head. I know more boost doesn't always equal more power but 3 lbs seems like a big difference. Is it because of the head work?

we take compression out of the head, every set up is diffrent diffrent boost # for the same power out of octane, octane and power level dont lie.
all you are saying is that you have to run 3 #S MORE TO GET THE SAME POWER OUT OF YOUR FUEL.

I'm lost...don't take this the wrong way, I'm truly trying to understand you. You are saying that detonation is a measure of power?

next update

Since my last post I have ridden about 6-7 times, mostly 9-10000' but I did go up idaho and rode @ 6000' havent had to touch the box once. I did turn the boost down to 8lbs and the fueling was still spot on. I couldnt be happier. I did gernade a belt though, saw i had pulled a cord on the belt but thought I could make it last, but the ponies had a diff. plan. now the problem is holding on. the power is so crazy. the thing tries to pull my arms off all the way up the hill. (oh yeah and I even got another call from shain to make sure there wasnt anything he could do) What kind of builder does that.

Yeah,Shain is a great guy, he's not just selling kits,he wants guys to have that $hit eating grin on their faces after riding a well tuned turbo sled.Riding is usually better than wrench'n and a day riding with Shain is always a blast. Thanks Shain.
