Turbo Questions

Need some good information on turbos for the 2013 Nytro. Between these brands (Push, MPI, MCX, Impulse) which one will be the best to run at all elevations? I know the mcx turbo has a built-in boost compensation system, but what do the other brands offer for running at sea level? What is the difference between the MCX 180 and MCX 240 kits (What parts are different)? I’ve heard that MPI will be the new turbo supplier for 2013 Yamaha’s, is this true? Anyone ever run the MPI kit or did MPI just start making them? Thanks.

i have had both the push and the impulse...the impulse with a head shim can be ridden at all elevations ! i turn the boost down to 8 psi at home =1600 foot. has plenty of hp !! pulls the ski's @50mph in the ditch !!.

i run 16 at 10,000 foot i don't mess with the clutch at all !! i have a prolonger just turn the boost up or down for the right rpm !!

paul has great customer service !

mike at push is good to work with too !

Differences between a mcx 180 and there 240 kit is , the 240 kit will have a head shim and an intercooler.

What does everyone think about the quality between the brands I listed above? I heard that Yamaha picked MPI because of better quality? Where can I find information on the MPI turbo kits? Went to there website and no luck, or I'm just not looking in the right spot.

Push is a great kit and they run awesome. and the price is right if you don't want to break the bank. List price is $3295.

As for the automatic altitude compensator with other brands, you can add a $50 boost controller to the push kit and adjust your boost easily with the turn of a knob. So you have to ask yourself if its worth another $1500 for the "automatic" altitude compensator?

You can run the push kit at low altitude, you just need keep the boost low (4-5). You also need to have a boost and A/F guage, especially at low altitude.

Yes, Yamaha switched to MPI for their turbo supplier this season. It was not because of Quality or Yamaha would never have chosen Push in the first place. The Push kit passed rigorous tesing by Yamaha. It was a Supply issue. I believe Yamaha could not get enough kits.

Hi Paul; which manual boost control valve do you recommend? Love my push turbo, would love to turn boost up or down without adjusting waste gate rod.

Thanks Jeff

How difficult is it to install head shim? Does MCX have good instructions on their 240 kit?

try reading a boost,a/f gauge when you have it pined . the $1500 for the "automatic" altitude compensator is to protect your engine another way to protect your engine is to have more octane then you need.i have seen the damage that 50 dollar part can do 3 or 4k worth or use a 300 dollar part like tru-boost aem.it has a data logger and over boost shut down PLUS it has the ability to put pressure against the waste gate to stop waste gate creep (my boost came on earlier over 1000 rpm a big plus)

The push turbo was the only boost system to pass all of yamaha test.

Though new to snowmobiling, push turbo was the first to offer turn key boost without making any adjustments regardless of where you were riding, plus the correct clutch; or at least I had not read about it till yamaha offered the push turbo.

I am a little biased to MCX so I would pick them first, just because we know it works, and its proven. We have done some MPI's and they are a nice kit too, still prefer the MCX altitude compensation to the others though. I won't even touch Push, the few that are running around up here in Canada haven't been super impressed with them, and have buyers remorse and would have went MCX/MPI instead if they could do it over again. I think they look pretty cheaply built too. Just my opinion though. Another thing to think about is what is available at your local dealer or close to you? I know up here in canada, MCX is pretty popular because there are a bunch of dealers familiar with it, try and find someone that knows anything about a nytro push turbo. pretty hard to find info or help. - Cody

Sorry, but MCX is NOT the only proven turbo kit. You state that the push kits in your area are not impressive. and then you state that no one in your area knows anything about them. Funny how you are quick to bash a product that you are not even familiar with. Tell me how would you expect them to work well if no one has a clue about them? I have built a number of Nytro's with the push kit and i am here to tell you that they work VERY well and pull surprisingly hard for a pump gas kit. We ride at 9-12,000 feet. This kit runs excellent with the pre-programmed fuel settings. The kit is very simple and economical for those who don't want to drain their bank account on a turbo kit. (push kit is $1400 cheaper than mcx) As with any turbo kit, the install is KEY and can make the difference between a POS or a Good running, reliable sled. FYI, there have been some updates on the push kit oil lines, etc since the kit first came out 2 years ago.

Go either mcx or impulse. Mcx has proven to be the most reliable day in and day out. Push is total junk. They run average for awhile and then start to fall apart as the quality of parts is so poor. There's a reason yammy dumped them.

he asked for a manual thats why i put that there, 10 years & i have not taken a motor out from running a 100$ controller.the hallman uses a ceramic ball no issues with boost spikes at all.not eveyone has the money for 1500$ compensator or they dont need one.

So if MCX is so good, why isn't Yamaha selling it? Hmmm...must not have passed Yamaha's extensive durability test like the Push did. Funny....

it amazes me how many closed minded mcx lovers there are out there that get offended when another turbo kit comes along

whoa...slow down...i don;t see any terribly bad bashing going on in RobertsonYamaha post..just a sentence or so..Admittedly he is biased some to a certain brand and indicates "his" customers would be best served with that brand because that is where "HIS" expertise seems to excell.....nothing wrong with that honesty..i think his bashing wasn;t intended to be as bad as it may seem to some..jmo..by the way you do put up a very good arguement for PUSH..and that seems to be well informed as well...i personally have looked at Push for a different brand and they seem to be in the game for sure..!!

I'm fine with other kits. Just seen numerous people on the hill that are very disappointed with the quality of the push kits.
