Turbo Muffler

Here are some pics of a muffler I made up for my 09 dragon 800 with silber turbo. I did a lot of searching and talking with people trying to find a muffler that would work with no luck. I did not want to cut a whole in my tunnel just to make it slightly quieter. So I did some research online to come up with this design. It is all stainless steel with stainless steel packing. It weighs roughly 8lbs. Before this all I had was a mild steel straight pipe off the turbo that was incredibly loud! and where I ride here in MN it is pretty populated and also have DNR officers out enforcing laws including noise violations. So not wanting to make a worse name for snowmobiling and/or rack up some serious tickets I figured I would try and make it quieter with great success. It still has some bark to it but about 75% quieter than what it was.

Let me know what you guys all think

Cheers!:beer;

Nice. How did you make the internal part w/ packing? Can you replace packing? I need to make one my turbo XP and need some ideas. I want to tunnel dump and have a muffler. Tired of wearing ear plugs.

Nice work! I was able to quiet my TD8 down a little bit as well but I continued using the tunnel dump. I think mine came in at 88-90db at 4k rpms. Never got checked in MN but then again, I rode mostly out west and sold it at the end of the year.

Here's how I made mine:

Nice Jonce. Do you have anything in the pipe pipe to help push the exhaust into the packing? Looks like the curve of yours would probably do it naturally. Mine will be in a straight section. Thinking of drilling holes and sticking a punch in them and bend them out so they would help direct air toward the packing. Just didn't know if that would work.

What I did on mine was drill a **** ton of holes and then wrap it with stainless steel packing, then put the sleeve around it.

i think it looks awesome man, very clean and built with price for sure.

here is one on my 06 rmk 900 turbo, very similar to yours..a buddy of mine built this tho...my welding is SKETCH, lol.

No, I didn't alter the flow of the pipe at all. I used the corner to help absorb the sound. It helped but I think there could be better ways to achieve a quieter exhaust note. Look at OVS's quiet turbo muffler, they seem to have a nice quiet option. Not sure how it's constructed or how it performs though.

You shouldn't have to do anything more than drill the holes, because the exhuast will try to disperse out in any direction that it can while going through the pipe. So the exhuast should naturally go through the holes and into the packing causing the sound to deaden

Thanks for the ideas guys. I know what I come up with won't look as nice as yours Sledking, but hopefully I can get 'er toned down some.

Well we got dumped on here in MN and I finally got out to ride it with my muffler design. Sure enough got stopped by the conservation officer and he told me I was pretty loud...didnt get a ticket, but guy said he should be issuing me one... not sure how to get it any quieter??
