Tunnel wrap

3M

I picked up a roll of carbon fiber 3M Di-NOC 72"x48" off ebay for $180 shipped. I will be installing it in a few weeks; any install tips you could give Fly ??

Flygti32 -> How did you get it into the little slots on the side of the tunnel?

Make sure you have the 3m adhesion promotor wiped in there. Then as you heat the film with the gun ( careful not to burn through it) you push it into the holes with your finger then i have a couple small tinting tools i used to push it around the edges. The film has a memory and heating it up past a certain temp cancels out its memory and allows the film to cool in the form you have put it in.

Di-Noc is a thicker film than 1080 series which personally, i like. It has a better adhesive on it as well. Best advice i can give is to try out a piece on something simple and you will quickly learn the films limits and also the mistakes that can be fixed. for example if you happen to crease the film while laying it down or stretching it, do not pull the film back up hot. Blow on it, cool it down, then pull it up. Once up apply heat to the area that got messed up and watch the crease repair itself then lay it back down. Try to avoid touching the adhesive on the film where it is going to be sticking down but sometimes its unavoidable. Thats where the adhesion promotor comes in handy.

O and it never hurts to have an extra set of hands around to help , especially if your stretching film around something. It can be a pain in the *** trying to run the heat gun , hold and stretch the film all by yourself.

I would definitely recommend getting good material, I got some cheap black shinny 16"x20' for like 35 bucks at a sign shop in my town. Looked really good for about 4-5 rides but has now cracked in a few places.

Sorry I don't have a better pic of the cracks

I just finished wrapping my tunnel last weekend. Bought a 3x5 foot sheet off of Ebay for like $35. It's 3M 1080 Satin black.

The biggest pain is working around rivets. Just take your time with a good squeegee. Poked a pin hole at each rivet to let out excessive air. I wet applied the vinyl. That's how I always did it when I used to wrap cars for a living ages ago. Just filled a spray bottle with water and a couple drops of liquid dish soap. Spray on the tunnel and the vinyl lightly. Helps with positioning.

For the oval cutouts on the side, I used a heat gun and pressed the vinyl in the hole with my finger 'til it stuck. Then I trimmed out each hole so that there's a separate small sticker in each hole. You see the aluminum edge of each hole, which makes a nice highlight feature. I also trimmed around the existing "144" sticker, as you can see in the pic.
