trouble with turbos

2014 xm boondocker turbo

I ran my 2014 xm this winter with a boondocker kit and intercooler, I am no chute runner but at 6 psi I am really happy with it and it ran well right out of the gate. I have some tuning to do but it doesnt blip or fart at all. I can ride all day and be a gallon within my none turbo friends. It is my first turbo and will not be my last as far as this year has been. I had it installed right off the hop and went through the breakin with no problem.:face-icon-small-hap

What turbo did you go with as far as the size goes. Kicking around the idea of there kit and ride a lot of trees and was thinking of paying for the upgrade and getting the smaller turbo. Any help would be great.

I went with the 2860 just because I dont need any more than 240 hp to take me places I shouldnt be. I love playing in the trees and exploring. My last sled was a modded rt 1000 and loved the power and it was a great sled to me. I also went with the stainless muffler and its nice not to hear it blowing off all the time. It runs like a stocker and my wife takes it out and it does not scare her. She hates my 1000 tho!
 
Turbo hp

Can somebody post Dyno runs on 2stroke 800s that are getting the kind of numbers that everyone talkes about?I am just curious.

Exactly. Turbos 800's have been around for years.
Why is there no dyno sheets available for turbos?
I'll tell you what. I will post My dyno sheets when I am able to get them. It is a pto dyno at sea level. Actually, the ASL is 16 ft. Its right beside the ocean in BC. Im still sledding up to June 4, 2014 so some time after that I will post them.
I don't have good puter skills so if all else fails I will give it to a younger fella who is puter literate and he can post for me.
Enough of smoke and mirrors. The buck stops here.
If any turbo company wants to send a turbo sled to me to test I will pto dyno run it free of charge. Let's get it on.
I fully expect turbo companies to be blowing up my pm's.

The one thing to keep in mind though when speaking about dynos is that it's hard to be apples to apples to the numbers we're used to hearing.


We use corrected numbers for N/A sleds when we dyno them up here, but do the same on a boosted machine & it doesn't work... it's not the right figure.

I'd love to see numbers on paper, but anyone who knows dynos knows they can be manipulated, and you can show incorrect info pretty easily.
It would be nice to see a quantitative comparison of different brands, but we have to understand that the numbers won't compare appropriately when compared to N/A dyno numbers, or each other at different altitudes really either.

Dyno numbers

Thanks guys for not attacking me but the curiosity is killing me.Myself and my son ran turbo 800 sleds I do realize that the new sleds get better hp but?We run turbo four strokes now and there is a different feeling running the 2to4stroke sleds.I am not trying to start a fight just find out why when u talk 10 lbs boost on a1200 four stoke people say your probably getting 270 to 280 hp maybe now guys are getting around those numbers running 10 lbs on a 800.I am no Dyno specialist but something just does not make sense.I can tell u that a four stroke on 10 lbs feels way stronger than 2 stroke on 10 lbs.Am I wrong if so tell me nicely and that will be the end of it.
 
The ETEC is just a tough engine to turbo. The best I've ridden/ridden with has been the Boonedocker. Their parts and components are all top notch and the parts they build in house are pretty sweet too. I nearly bought an Aerocharger for my 12 Freeride but chickened out. My local dealer put one on his personal sled and it NEVER ran right. Not one time did that sled run well for a whole day. It ate 3 sets of reeds too. Then when Aerocharger made/bought/whatever turbo reeds they wouldn't even send a set to my dealer. They didn't have "enough" that season and the next season they told him "we only have reeds for the NEW kits we are shipping". I can't even get my head wrapped around that.
The comments about knowing how to wrench a turbo sled are spot on. That kind of performance stresses every part of the sled. At a minimum a turbo owner needs to make sure and nut and bolt his sled every other ride like a previous poster said or stuff is gonna start falling off or failing.
Chadly needs to tell you the rest of his story. He had a miss he couldn't fix for half the season and really couldn't find anyone in the Seattle area to help him. When he went to ID to ride with Brett he tracked down the problem pretty quick but he still lost a lot of the season. A couple weeks ago his sled caught on fire and burned to the snow. Oil line, gas line, electrical fire who knows.??? It would take a CSI investigation to sift thru the ashes now and figure it out.
If/when I ever do a two stroke turbo it will be a Cat or Poo even though I love the XM. Seen and ridden a lot of nice running turbos on those brands.
 
I don't know I guess I am doing something wrong since I have never had to "nut and bolt my sled every other ride to keep stuff from falling off":face-icon-small-con I pull the clutches after every ride and clean and inspect, this has been the only routine thing I have had to do to mine. Now I do like to wrench on my sled between trips, I like working on getting the clutching dialed in but other than that my turbo has been no more work than any other sled I have owned.
 
Agree what ^^^^^^ he said....If your turbo was installed correctly from the beginning theres very little maintaining required other than occasionally checking the lines for air leaks.

I also used to wire tie all the bolts together on my Garrett for added insurance.
