trimming track width

I have found a good deal on a 136x15" track the only problem is i have a 2007 phazer and i can only put a 14 inch wide track on it. Is it possible to trim it 1/2 inch on each side to make it 14 or would that just ruin it?

It sure is. Been done many times. most guys turn the track inside out and cut it down with a table saw. Get a couple guys to help you and take your time. It will be smoky, noisy, and messy but it will work great. Make sure you use a guide fence. have fun! Eric

You can trim the track, 1/2" on each side. I did mine with a skil saw. It worked but it was a bit rough. I recently saw a thread that showed the easiest way I have seen but I can't seem to find it. This fella took a small table saw and solidly attached it to some saw horses. This was after he looped the track around the table saw and through the legs of the saw horses. He attached a couple of strips of plywood to the table saw top the width of the distance between the inside cogs of the track. Besides the fence of the saw the strips helped keep the track going straight as it was being cut. He pulled the track and trimmed it by himself. It looked like a nice straight even job from what I could tell. I would suggest using a carbide tip blade. The fiberglass rods in the track are pretty tough.

Another option with a Skill saw is a saw guide. You can get a saw guide at Home Depot, Lowes or really anyplace that sell saws. I have five different models of saws (a Dewalt cordless, Dewalt direct drive, Craftsman cordless, a Bosch worm drive and Skill worm drives) and they will all accept a saw guide. Might be an odd model out there that won't. The cordless models came with a saw guide and they are a smaller guide than the corded models. They cost less than $10 and with it you can cut as straight as a table saw. Take your time and keep the fence against the track and it will turn out good. A cordless saw is light and small and might be the best option other than batteries needing charged.

A friend with a spray bottle of water will keep things going smoothly and keeps the smoke down, we learned this grooving mud tires with a router.

Hi I work at timbersled products we built a custom saw just for cutting down tracks if u cant figure it out or do not want to do it yourself you could send it to us and we can cut it down.
