Tri Cities Bumper issues...

You asked a question.
He answered the question.
If you don't like the answer, DON"T ASK.
People wonder why they don't get responces to questions, this would be why.

Well said.
I couldn't believe he said that about an honest response either.

Maybe HE needs to move on.
Talk about disrespect...Sheesh

It's not like the guy told him to buy a DOO or Cat or something. It was a reasonable suggestion.

I have a TCP bumper on one of mine and it cracked around the tabs too. I ride hard but I don't tear up my stuff. I called and they told me I must be mistreateing it. I just left it on and advertise for them.

After reading on here how great they were I bought one. I thought it was over priced to begin with and after this happened this confirmed it.

There are so many products available for our sleds and there is some overpriced junk out there.

Sorry Spiffy

Why not take it off and have it welded locally. I know it may not be the best solution for you, but it will not cost anymore than shipping it back would. For me it is easier to take it to one of my suppliers, weld it, install it, see if it breaks, if not good. it it breaks then its obviously something else.
Let the manufacturer know and carry on with life...

Ok perhaps my response to his message was a bit rude and for that im sorry Spiffy. I just took the "and cary on with life" part a little too negatively. Apology accepted??

Good enough for me.:D
At the time most of us were buying the TCP bumper, it was the ONLY one on the market.
It wasn't till this season that any choices were available.
If they arn't going to warrenty it, seriously, I would just check into getting it welded and put a gusset on it to re-inforce that spot. May cost a few dollars but it won't be much and it is still cheaper than buying a different bumper.

I have litterally had my sled hanging from the bumper and it hasn't failed. I have no clue what would cause it to fail unless it is a shallow weld.

Is this your idea of a "trail ride" as posted in the "Washington" section where you are looking for people to go "extreme" riding with??

Seems to me your looking for attention more than anything!

Of course I could be wrong!

Heres the pic of you posted by you!

I think I went down that same trail by accident once too!

Baker?

If your frame is not broken, allowing the welds to become stressed 'till they break I would have to agree that the weld is way too shallow.

If they wont warrentee their craftsmanship then they will soon feel the negative responses from this and many threads in the future.
They'll either start to beef up the product or stop building them all together.

Proper welds are as strong as the base metal. Is it cracking through the weld or on the adjacent material? Most people do not want to do what it takes to weld chrome moly steel correctly. As a result fatigue can crack the weld in the heated zone around the weld. If the weld is cracking and there is no sign of abuse or deformed metal indicating an excessive load was applied, there are only three possiblities. 1. Tri city did not understand the all of the loads and the materials' response during the design. 2. They did not design a proper weld. 3. Poor weld. Theses are all indicative of a warranty issue.

NO BODY is harder on these bumpers than I am. Mine shows no wear, other than bark and sap.

They told me that they have only had 3 problems with these bumpers mine, yours and the other guy who posted on here. They say they have all been on 900's. Mine is.... They said one of them showed up for warranty while mine has been waiting for warranty.... Was that either of you two? If not my count is at least 4 problems..... Mine originally broke the upper left(while sitting on the sled) then the lower left and upper right.... when I took it off the fourth tab broke as well..... My only negetive response is that I haven't had mine for approx. 3 months, maybe longer, and it still isn't welded up. I want mine polished for free for taking sooo long to fix it. They want approx. $100. How can they sell a polished one for only $25 more than a powdercoated one and they wanna charge me $100:eek: Anyways I think they will take care of me..... eventually

busted bumper holds strong.

Thanks for the info guys i'll look into plating it or something.

OK so story about the bumper, It broke on a quick run up and down the trail (maybe 2-3 miles). the second time was a day of light riding and i didnt know how long into it it broke. Thirdly, that picture of me dropping (yes baker) was taken after the second one broke, i dropped that cliff twice and and the second time endoed it and the (broken) bumper held together just fine....its kinda just wedged in there! so the damn thing is no doubt STRONG! i just want it to stay on! TCP has a good product, it just has rough edges.

see it as you like bigtruck, that was my LAST ride at baker last season, i went up with a great group and never got any contact information to meet up with them again, i was hoping some of them would catch onto that thread, and some have. The picture was i guess to give a hint at the riding i like to do, thats all. Im not trying to make enemies here, just friends.

Im not attempting to make enemies! I just think it's odd that you state the bumper has broken twice due to "trail riding" but yet you show pictures of this style of riding and admit to doing an endo in the process but cant figure out why Tri City wont warranty the bumper?? Or why the bumper is broke!

Hell yea I'll ride with ya!!:D

It looks like in the pictures I have seen, it that at the end of every weld there is a crater. Craters make for very week points and usually start cracking with very little stress, even the expansion and contraction because the weather can start the first part of the crack. Also tri city probally wants $100 bucks to polish your existing bumper, because they now have to remove all the power coating, or they just are anticipating having to remove some heavier scratches. I'm just shooting in the dark on that one.

the pictures were taken with the second broken bumper on, jumped it with a busted bumper.

ya but its not scratched up and they would send it back to me powder coated or bare for no extra charge.... which one of you guys sent one into them this summer?

Screw TCP bumpers!

Ok, so I might have mine on a 900. So what? Doesn't a 800 have more power? Why would it be a 900 problem, twisting the chassis. I call BS! I sent mine in to them, it took damn near 6 months to weld back up, when they should've sent me a new one. I installed it, rode up the ditch 3-5 miles and took it for a night ride in West Yellowstone, 70 miles later, one of my tabs is already broken off. They don't evan stand up to 70 miles of easy "test" riding. I wasn't boondocking, it was dark! I didn't get stuck and tug on it either. WTF!?!?! Go for Skinz Prtotective Gear! But I cut my panels up, so I'll keep welding this chinsy p.o.s. up.

 wow...only two things come to mind...caught with the hands in the cookie jar and caught with the pants down..:p:p..nice riding pic though..
