Traveling to Canada with a DUI?

A passport will help a TON. I'm 19 and when I went alone in my truck they let me threw with less questions with a passport then me and my 60 year old dad with just regular ID. Here is the problem, my dad has something minor 15 YEARS ago and was denied! I won't go into it but they ask if you've ever been arrested or in trouble with the law, that's it. It's not lieing if you tell them no for a DUI. The thing also is, they CANNOT bring up your record if you tell them no and they won't, and 99.9999% of the time they won't ask anything else and just let you go. I will tell you right now if you say yes, your heading back, they will go in all this BS then deny access. This was the flipside trying to go into US as a Canadian but it's the same thing. My dad went down about 2 times and never got asked about being arrested, then one time when we went down they did and denied him, it is retarded. The border is a place were you don't want to lie, but you don't tell them anymore then they need to know.

So why can they not bring it up if you dont tell them? Is there really a law that states that?

If he wouldnt have been out playin with them womens and had his head where it shouldnt have been, he wouldnt had this problem ;) . Just messin with ya brother....you know who you are!!

BTW, Thanks for the call! I will hang out up at mirror, riding the same ol trails in the same ol country. It's all good!

Uh..................uh...........:o

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but they can't just run a quick check and see you have a record. When my dad said he had a problem they knew nothing about it and when they did a check they found nothing, but since he already told them they documented it and he isn't allowed into US until it is pardoned, which takes years. If he told them it never happened, even if they checked they would of never known. They said straight out we could go to another border crossing and tell them no, but now that it is documented they know.

You also need to remember if they ask you "have you ever been arrested" even if you have, and were not charged you can say no, it is not lieing. They just word it like that to catch people. Granted this is going INTO US, but I imagine it is the exact same for coming into Canada.

Thanks Dave!

Cyle, you bring up a different point. What if someone had been arrested for a misdemeanor here? I think it was like disorderly conduct or something, years back?

Dang, it sounds like I ride with a bunch of hooligan's! lol

Betcha he won't have any problems flying in.
Just have your buddy fly in and pick him up at an airport that's on the way. Only needs a one way ticket since he shouldn't have any problems getting back in the US.

That is an option. Why do you think he would not have a problem flying in?

Hey...officially 'that guy' was never arrested. And he's been to Canada several times since then and they have always let him in.

He would have a rougher time flying in since 9/11.Also they look at people that fly in with a one way ticket as someone that maybe staying illeaglly. He would stand a better chance with two way ticket but once again 9/11 security.I took a one way ticket on Greyhound to Seattle to drive back a classic car a friend had bought but when we got to the border crossing on the American side i got taken off the bus with my friend and told to stay away.No records for either of us they just figured we were going to stay illeaglly. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Dave

If one of these "hooligan's" decided to vacate a seat..........I will fill it up for them. Gladly even!! Guess what, my record is squeeky clean! But then again I dont have a sled of the calibur needed to hang with the baller crowd!

Honestly, I would stuff "you know who....um...Mr. Tatoo" under a sled cover in the trailer. The whole way there. So that way while he is out in the cold he can think about the consequences of his actions. BAD BOY!! :p :beer;

I asked him if he could fit between the tunnel and track............

You might not have a sled of that calibur, but Amy does!!! Just asked to borrow the wifes sled, lmao!!!!

Here is some information from travel advisor. Good Luck, I know that the tourism industry in Canada was trying to fight this. We do fly in fishing in Ontario. The outfitters were pissed. My brother could not go in fear of being turned back.

That's a good article Zach. It does say there is a time limit, but others have said personal experience is different. So who knows?

I flew in with some friends into Calgary 3 years ago. One of my buds did have a DUI and was taken into a special room for 2 hours and sent on his way after paying a $200 fine. I'd say if he flew in, they would be more sympathetic, but bring a few hundy to pay the piper. Also kiss their azzes. They love thier big power...

x2

just unload him and his sled a mile from the border and pick a line through the trees. pick em up on the other side.

Had the same idea, not sure where your crossing just google a good route and pick him up in Cananada. How big is teh guy I have the Klime team gear bag and I'm sure you could stash a medium build person in one of those:rolleyes:. OOps sorry FLIT, just try'n to help the brother go to Revy:devil:,
