Transfer Ownership Washington to Montana

I
Looking at buying a few sleds, They're in Washington, guy says Washington State doesn't issue titles, and to transfer ownership, all he does is give you the registration and a bill of sale. You take that to Montana court house, and get title. Correct??????

ive owned 8 sleds and live in wa and no they do not come with titles neither does wi and quite a few other states all they come with is regs because they do not have wheels on them.but ived heard they are working on it this year

There still will be a title on a machine, no matter where it comes from. The thing you would need to do is apply for a duplicate title. You can go down to your local DMV and ask for the form. As long as you have the registration and a legitiment Bill of Sale you should be fine. They might charge you around $30 if not more for the titles.
If you even just call your local DMV and ask them they will tell you the procedure you need to follow... its better than running into titling issues once you bring the sleds all the way back home:rolleyes:

I've bought a few sleds from Washington. The DMV (at least here in the Flathead, can't imagine that the rest of the state doesn't know this) know that Washington doesn't issue titles, so all I needed to do was to bring in the registration, bill of sale.....and of course the proper ID, then pay the fee and wait for the title in the mail.

Washington Does Not have titles for snowmobiles.
Call the dmv all you want, they must get at least 100 phone calls a day durring this time of the year.
Just make sure the guy that is selling it does have the registration in his name and get a bill of sale.

Completely incorrect. Washington state does NOT issue a title for snowmobiles. They are not the only state that does this also.

Get the registration and a bill of sale. If your DMV gives you crap go to another one because they are misinformed.

There are no titles for sleds in WA. When you go to the DMV they will have a list of states that have titles. WA. is not one of them. All you need is a bill of sale. If it were the other way around, you could not transfer a sled to your name without a title if the state you bought from has them and your state does not.

The one we just did here in Troy mt required a notorized bill of sale from the dmv and thats it.

From a manufactuer there will always be what they call an MCO, Manufacturers Certificate of Origin. In SOME states that do not require titles it is required that you apply for a new title THROUGH your DMV... all Im saying.

And as far as going to a different DMV.. not gonna happen. They're seperated by counties.

I work in a dealership and see title issues daily. Just giving some insight..

And figure this one out - WA State DOES issue titles on motorcycles, dirt bikes, ATV's, etc......... and in most cases the sleds cost more than these other things mentioned (and yes - sleds are now officially way over-priced ! )

Hey Mcgeary07
Thanks for giving me a thumbs down for my factually correct post.

I don't care if you work at a dealer, your original post is wrong. Quit posting incorrect information and then doing chicken chit manuevers like giving a thumbs down for someone correcting your post. Just because your state does one thing, others do it different. There are NO TITLES FOR SLEDS IN WASHINGTON STATE.

In washington when you REGISTER your sled it specifies right on the registration NO TITLE ISSUED.

the reason so far that they dont have titles is because on the registation it says skt which stands for ski and track they are not a wheeled vehicle therefore they did not issue titles but i hear after the first of the year that is going to change ive been told by the dmv that there going to make you apply for a title another way to get our money im sure that will help with the gooming:p
