Whatever system is used needs to provide a trail to the location and not just a location. Most of the satelite devices won't even work under the gas pump canopy. A high tech group of thieves might put your toy box in a moving van and head out of the country invisible to satelites.

the logistics of that doesn't make sense. a trailer full of gold maybe, but not sleds. you would have to use a loading dock to get it in there, most trailers are 8' wide inside, same as a freight van. if no loading dock, you would have to have 40' long ramps to get it in there without hanging the tail on the ramps if it would even fit. high tech thieves ain't looking for sleds, lambourghini's maybe.....

Go to Omniscout.com. Its probably more than the average guy wants to spend, however I used this model for work and it is great. With the extended battery pack it will transmit for up to 30 days. It transmits using GPS, if the unit goes indoors it uses cell phone towers (not near as accurate). You can set it up so that when the unit leaves an area it will send you a text message and an e-mail. You can also vary how many times it "pings" the satelite. You can go as often as every 15 seconds. It will track the unit while on the move.
