Trailer hold down ideas

I just bought a used 4 place open trailer. It has the holes on the side of the trailer and a plate in between where the sleds go to put the bars thru. The trailer didn't come with the bars to hold the sleds in place. What can I do to hold the sleds down. I have been using ratchet straps in the meantime but would like a better system. I'm on a budget here so keep that in mind. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks

Back when I had an open trailer I used Superclamps on the skiis but I still also passed a 2" HD ratchet strap thru the skids as well... And one day when the hitch coupler failed I was rewarded for doing so; the sleds still moved some but stayed on the trailer and I managed to get the whole deal stopped with no damage! :)
