Trailer flipped on the way to Cooke

Wow man, glad to hear you're ok. Crazy experience for sure!

If you are in the market for deck, I can recommend Full Lotus.

Here's part of a post I put on another forum:

The FL has a very proven track record, the slides are tubular and less prone to warping/bending which I've seen on square tubing decks, the ramp is a beauty, the deck is 100% full TIG welded and rated to 4500lbs. One pin to unlock or lock the slides which open and close with 2 fingers. The brackets which the ramp slides under the deck is lined with puck board. Super easy sliding. The top of the deck is a composite resin? material which should never need replacing.

And the FL is entirely Canadian including the electrical and metal. And they look unreal. Their prices just went up recently on their decks but I personally think they are still very competitive.

I don't mean to sound like I'm selling these things but Forrest knows what he's doing and backs his product.

Wow, thanks for the info. I ordered a Full Lotus last week and Forrest was great.

I have a 14 crew cab Ram short box, should I get the long box deck and have it stick out a couple feet? Seems like the 90" shorter deck wont be long enough for 163" sleds.

Thanks for the pics...:present:

It's tough to see but this is a 163" on the 90" deck. No issues with the length but you'll definitely need a marker on the back of the sleds. Forrest can also build you a removeable extension if you like.

I have a riding buddy that we would either use his enclosed or mine. He has agreed he would rather use mine than his purpose built sled trailer due to height and weight.

I use a enclosed car trailer with a drive out v nose. It is heavier and lower to the ground. It does not whip and is not as easily pushed around by the cross winds. PROBLEM, they have wheel wells on inside. Only thing I have to do is drive the first sled in backwards so its skies are on the back side of wells. The other 3 drive in forward. Even with this we both would rather use my trailer.

That is basically what my trailer was (22' box-5 1/2' V nose Mission all-Sport). I used it to transport cars too, had 5200 lb tandem axles and was lower with wheel wells. It was pretty light especially with an aluminum frame and two sleds in it. The local paper reported 13 gusts between 90 and 117 mph on black Friday morning and one of those tipped us over in an instant. Last week I bought a flat steel deck/dovetail 20' PJ for hauling cars and ordered an Full Lotus Sled deck. :present:

I went to Cooke City that same day pulling a four place open Triton with three sleds on it. Trailer did fine but my new tonneau cover blew open once stopped to put it back down and the wind blew my sunglass of my head and 3/4 of the way across the road. Got back in the truck no more then get on the road and it blew open again and by the time I could get pulled over it broke the lock and put the first dent and scratches in the truck. I wasn't very happy. I did make it up to Cooke though. Sorry about your trip. Glad you where all Ok.

Randman,
That's a bad location or rollovers. I've seen two flipovers there and had a close call myself with a 26 foot trailer about 4 years ago. I go agree with many on this forum that say its good things broke!! Having a weak link on that road is a good thing as you'd have been with that trailer. I just bought a www.sledecks.com Silverlake Mfg.
They aren't as finished or fancy as the rest BUT a reasonbly priced and ONE person can load and unload them. Also, there is plenty of room to get bags underneath it. I had a Mission and I couldn't get any bags in the back!. Hated it.
