Trailer flipped on the way to Cooke

Might be a blessing the ball broke. Truck didn't lay on its side.

Sam

Yup, and even if you could find a stout ball, most of the 2 inch hitches are crap anyways.

Better to have a weak link and come out alive, than wreck the whole shooting match.

We were darn glad the ball broke...Otherwise the truck probably would have flipped on it's side. That ball was stout, 2-5/16 on a Trimax Razor Hitch. That wind gust was Crazy!

Been there done that going up the switch backs on cheifjoseph highway
I now have a sled deck and 3 place I pull.. it sucked to loose the storage in the winter/summer but with this set up it gives me a lot more options.. and don't burn near as much fuel..

I am going to look at sled decks today. Sucks to lose the all the room and versatility of the trailer but I have to pull through wind at Chief Joseph or Livingston to get to Cooke and Ranchester, WY to go to the Horns and they are all pretty blustery spots and pulling a trailer on icy roads is not that fun either.

What do you guys recommend for sled decks? Looking at a Full Lotus but I would be a month out to get it and Mission has one, I think it is the same one Poo sells. Marathon looks good too.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

I have a Marathon Classic with 9ft extendable ramp. It works great. Make sure you get Superclamps, they're way easier to deal with on a sled deck than the standard tie bars.

The only thing I don't like is how your stuff isn't totally sealed off under the deck. But it's way better than towing a trailer!

I have a Wells Cargo Silver Sport All Aluminum 27' and I have almost lost it a few times on the way to Cooke. I always make sure I have 4 sleds in there at all times and a barrel of race fuel. Even then its scary! I have had it on two wheels a few times... Scary Business!!!!! Im liking the idea of sled deck but man the enclosed are nice! Glad you are ok.

I've only been to Cooke via Pilot once, I guess I got lucky with regards to wind.

Not sure that a heavier trailer would do the trick either. In my area we have an area near hear called washoe valley that when there is a high wind warning they close it down to trucks with campers and big rigs and anything else that could be blown over Although tractor tailers are a lot taller they are extremely heavy and have been know to blow over if the right amount ot wind hits them here is footage of one of then going over in the are i am talking about

Glad to hear no one was hurt in your case. NO Doubt!!! scary situation

Wow, that is crazy! The second video was a very familiar feeling...:present:

been through there 80 times, most of the time I will slow right down to 20 mph if it is windy with a 4 place. I have also felt like the sleds and deck would blow right off the truck too

I would suggest a Silver Lake Sled Deck... not sure if you have a dealer in your area but the deck is second to none. Works great and the extendable sides work great for the daily diver.
