Traeger grills???

I have only owned my traeger for a few weeks but I have used it quite a bit. All of the sudden my house is the popular spot for gatherings. I prefer to use apple or cherry when cooking pork, mesquite for beef and alder for salmon. Around here you can get 20 lb bags for $10-12

I have been looking since this thread was started, best I can find is $699 also, add $20 and you get the digital thermostat. That is with the dealer that I found close to here has to offer, online is the same price (EBAY) with $50-100 shipping fees. I searched Cabelas online and could not find them, coyoteman did you pick that up at one of the stores? 500 bucks is a smoking deal compared to what I have found, but like I said cant find it online. I was going to buy mine as soon as I get the chance, but if I can pick one up for $500, I will hold off.

Thanks for all the info, I am convinced now. Great rib recipe SSledder! Cant wait to try them. Just ordered 30 baby backs for the Fire Dept here, me and the ol man are going to cue em up on his big boy grill Thursday. (He is all secretive on his recipe, but I will get it and put on the forum) hee hee. Let us know coyoteman, that is nearly a $200 dollar savings from what I have found, and it sounds like there are a few of us ready to purchase.

Mule, make sure it's the Thermostat and NOT the thermometer, the thermostat is usually about $169.

PS ALSO wrap the rib rack in tin foil for the last 30 mins to add moisture.

That was over the phone, so it may be wrong, didnt sound like the fella I was talking to knew too much, the ebay site threw it in for free, but that grill was $699. Now maybe I can see how Coyoteman got his for 500, if he did not get the thermostat.

mulestar, they ran a special in the omaha store, my neighbor is a dealer and he cannot even buy them for that. I will be buying the thermostat.

Thanks Coyoteman, wow you got a good deal. I guess I will just bite the bullet and get it here, at least I wont pay shipping.

Sorry fellas had to bring back this thread, finally went down and picked up my grill, the lil tex, for $699 with the digital thermostat and two bags of pellets, couldnt beat the deal, not even on the internet without the shipping costs figured in! Came home, put it together started it and seasoned it like the directions said. Tonight is the big night, anyone have any pointers for something simple for the first time?

Thanks for all the advice and the extra "shove" I needed to go get one.

Sorry, I should have read the whole post... Enjoy you're cooker. The best way to a double chin.... buy a smoker!!!!

I didn't read through the whole thread and not sure if you've made your purchase yet. If you haven't and your still looking for smokers, you may want to do some reviews on this one as well. These guys claim their smokers are banned from BBQ competitions because they're so good...

I'm not taking anything away from the traeger as I've never seen one or have had any bbq from one, but rather just giving you another opinion, option, etc.

I purchased this one about a month ago and have made ribs, prime ribs, briskets, etc. and have nothing but great success at of it.
