Track tension for Taller lugs

I have a question regarding track tension. It might even be a non issue. Should the track tension be the same when switching from 2.25" lug powerclaw to a 2.6" lug? Seems like I might be too tight. I'm getting some vibration on the hard pack trail.

you want about 1"-1.5" of slack

with the weight off the track and a 20# pulling force on the track. I ran my 162x3" tighter due to the lack of front jackshaft-tunnel clearance . never had any issues. it maybe had .5" of track to skid slack

Thanks. I loosened it up some more but not where I had it marked with the smaller track. I'll try this and see if it's better. I know for sure I had it too tight because it wore the back end of the hifax some.

Before you wreck your track, slide the hyfax out a ways and tapper the end. they should be a half inch short and tapered. You are putting a lot of pressure on the cross bars and can rip them loose.

It is tapered, not sure about the 1/2" part though. It might be more. I'll have to check that in am. Thank you.

If it's more it won't hurt anything but if it is too long you should feel it clunking over each bar. First cat I owned with slides I replaced the hyfax a left them straight cut to the end of the rail and made it a couple hundred yards before a destroyed the track!

I'm glad you pointed this out. After taking a closer look, it is tapered but it is not quite 1/2" short, maybe 1/4". This and a way too tight track is what was probably causing my vibrations over the weekend. Thanks again.

Not to hijack the thread but mine are tapered at the end but run a little past the rail. Do I have a problem here or not?

I'll take a pic of mine in the am so you can compare. I would say that they should not stick out though as it was pointed out earlier that it will cause problems with the track ,
