Track shock removal

I am trying to replace the front track shock on 07 D7. One of the lower bolts came out, but the other just sits and spins. Can I just clamp a vicegrips onto the outer part of the tubing to hold the inner part from turning, or is there something that I am missing?

The factory applies a thread-lock substance to the bolts when the skid is assembled and that is what you are fighting. You can put the bolt back in and tighten it, then loosen the other bolt, then keep repeating the process until both back out. High speed impact wrenches help. You can also heat the bolts to loosen the thread-lock and loosen them that way. The same issue will probably arise with the skid mounting bolts. 550iq

Thanks. After I posted the question, similar questions showed up at the bottom of the screen. Clicked on those and they had the same answer as you. Tightened it back up and took an impact to the other and they are both out. Thanks again!!!
