Track guestion 163 new pol track vs. 2.5 extreme 162

Looking at updating to a new track on my 07 m1000. Just a few questions. The stock 2.25 162 seems to be a good track in the powder but just "ok" in set up snow, to soft of paddles, so my question is this, would it be an upgrade to go with the 163 series VI or what ever they are, even though I would need new drivers. The reason I ask is, I know the 2.5 extreme is a great track but the extra weight of the track is substantual, I think close to 10lbs (not sure) heavier than both the 163 and the stock track. I have also heard that the 163 pol track is a little on the soft side, I wonder how the durometer comparse to the 2.25 track that I already have. Any insite and input would be great thanks.:beer;

save that money and add some more to it and get that turbo. I just picked mine up tonight. Headed out in the morning. I can change my name to turbo terry now.

Here is my take on it. Swapping from a stock challenger to a 2.5 extreme is noticable. It makes a definite difference, even considering the extra weight. Albeit, the new Polaris tracks seem to work very well too, better or worse than the 2.5 I couldnt say. They both seem to perform comparably from what I can tell. If it were me and I was in the same situation, I would go with a 2.5 and have no regrets about it. Considering the cheap and easy install with the extreme is something to take into mind as well.

Pretty vague reply, but I hope it helps in some regard.

Cheap and Easy???
If you want it's full potential you'll have to extend the chain case OR do a d & r so you can run at least 8 tooth drivers.
If you don't want to do all that then you can go with just 7 tooth drivers but you should go with Avid CNC'd drivers at $115 a pop.

Don't get me wrong it sounds like everyone who's done this track loves it and I might do one myself but it is NOT cheap and easy. THAT is something to take into mind as well.

Would you really have to D&R the 07 M1000? I would think there's plenty of room for another 1/4" of lug under it. I'm not saying you don't know what your talking about but I'm surprised to hear that they didn't leave enough room under them things to go 2.5.

The new m1000 is a 2.52 ? all this time I thought a 162 was a 3.0 ?

Aw never mind he is saying 2.25 lug hight, not 2.52 pitch. I really should read more carefully.

If you have reverse I believe you have to trim the lugs on the sides to clear on an M.
And I'm pretty sure you can't fit an 8 tooth 3.0 pitch with a 2.5" lug in any sled w/o a D & R...well you might be able to but it would be a very tight fit.

Bob, I have a 162x2.5 on my kingcat with stock drivers. Two buddies I ride with have the same setup on their M-1000's. By cheap and easy I meant you would NOT have to buy drivers, you would NOT have to have those drivers pressed on and surely would NOT have to drop and roll the chaincase. By subtracting out all the additional expense and messing around it makes the 162 a LOT cheaper and easier in my mind.

Oh yea I forgot the Cats came with 3.0 drivers.
Kinda surprised you can fit the 2.5 in there.

If that's the case it's a no brainer. Wish it was that easy for my doo.

I believe you, I'm just surprised there's that much room in there.

Plus I'm already sold on a extreme just not sure how I want to fit it into my rev yet. Wish the revs had that much clearance.

Yeah, I had a lot of clearance with my King.

One thing I've been wondering, How about running the Extreme backwards for spring riding? We did it with the Attack-20. The hook up was unreal, maybe it would have a little of the same, but not quite so rad.

I'm running the 2.5 extreme on my sled and there is plenty of room in there. This track hooks up quite a bit better than my challenger. Not sure it swapping directions would cause a substantial difference because the lugs seem to angle both directions. I believe this track is definitly worth having though. I have been happy with it so far.

I'll look tonight , but I thought they all angled foreward like the Attack, just not

as soft or as much.

hey d edge
i was just wondering if you had to trim the track at all on the reverse side i have heard some people say they had to, and i was wondering if you tried the 2.5 before you installed the turbo since i was thinking of putting it on a non turbo m8

A buddy of mine is running a 2.5 on a turbo M-1200 and says it is a manditory deal for a boosted sled.

The 2.5 lugs form a cupped section in the center. Running it backwards ( I assume) would make the track less aggressive. Perhaps it would net some better deep powder performance if you ran it backwards. I wouldnt know, but I have heard of guys running them backwards. Personally, I don't think I would bother trying to experiment with it. It is hands down the best track I have ran.

Yes I did trim the outer driver nub on the Diamond Drive side about half off. Not a big deal, takes a couple minutes with a saws all. I did not have the track on before the turbo so not sure how it would do on a stock M-8. Depends on what length your going to run I guess.
