Towing Ski-doos

Everyone seems to have different methods of towing Ski-doos and other snowmobiles. No one likes to be towed out, but to happens to the best of us. Most riders don't plan ahead for a problem. Some kind of a towing rope or strap should be with every sled. Would like to hear your opinions on where to hook up and what you use for towing.

long tow rope with a hook on each end, run through the bumper of the towing sled and hook to each lower a-arm of broke sled, tape hooks so they stay on:beer;

Tie the rope to the back of the doo and give the other end to your buddy on the cat or the yamaha or the polaris and let them worry about it. Be careful with the yamahas cause they're like pullin a plow. Or just phone graveler to come pick u up. I think he's bored anyways. Lol.

I bought 50 feet of heavy duty nylon rope. It is only 1/4 inch, but it is strong, compact and has already proven itself last year. It was $10 at Lowe's and fits under the seat with the owner's manual.

you get your sled pulled out backwards??? weird:confused:

We had to tow an XP up a pretty steep grade last year to get it out. One sled by it's self wouldn't pull it up the hill, so we tried two sleds, each with a strap tied to the a arm on their side, still no luck. We ended up running one strap through the front of both skis and hooking the ends to the bumpers of the tow sleds. One end on one sled and one on the other sled. When they pulled, when one sled started to trench the load went to the other sled but the rope stayed tight on the one that was losing traction. As one would lose traction the other one would pull. It went back and forth up the hill but all three sleds made it on the first try with this set up.

I used to tow ski to ski, Long rope, 25' or so, loped through the bumper. Still works for SHORT distances, BUT with todays plastic ski's, it can permanently bend them or worse. The spindle to spindle works awesome. Take tape tyrap or whatever, tie the ski loops to the rope if no rider. Then ski's will stay straight with tow rope.

Last time I towed a buddies CAT, we had a neat strap, 2 pc. One piece had loops that went around the spindles and clamped back on the strap. In the middle of that strap was a D ring. the 2nd strap went from tow sled to the D ring.

Do NOT tie a tow rope to the ski loop of a SKI DOO--the loop is hollow and will sap. Tie the end to the spindle and thru the loop which will steer the towwed sled. Pulling up hill, have the other rider ride double on another sled until you are up the hill.

Do not use a Snobungie as a tow rope as they can beak and become a weapon.

Wanna tie onto the machine as low as possible and then high as you can on the tow machine, pulling from bumper to bumper usually forces the towed sled to dive.

as for what to use, the nylon style purpose built town straps with a hook on either end.

we use a 20' chunk of "Mule tape" with 2 loops tied in it. one on the end and the other about 6' up from the end. put it through the spindles and thread the no looped end into the middle loop and tie off to the bumper of the pull sled. works well if the rider of the dead sled has to steer to stay out (or in) of the trench of the pull sled. it's light and strong and takes up very little space in the trunk.

the correct way

:D:eek::confused:

I want to get one of the Snobunje tow kits, they state you can pull a sled without a rider on it with their system of a couple lengths of nylon straps, and it will not run into the towing unit. Like $15.00

If you have a long way to go and off trail, that pic from the 60's is the way to go! With the modern sleds, it's quick and easy to turn the ski's around backward, and but the tail end of the dead skidoo on the tunnel extension of the poo and tie it down. They tow out very nicely like this if you are in the backcountry and have a long way out.

Right Idea, but next time tie one end to first sled, route thru ski handle around behind spindles back thru other ski loop to 2nd tow sled bumper.

Allows both tow sleds to always pull and going thru ski loops keeps broken sled towing straight, spindles won't break off when towing.

Thats a great way, especially with the plastic ski's But remember back in the day, all ski's were metal? It was common practice then LOL

Last time I cooked a piston, I put my sled on a skiff. MUCH nicer LOL
