Torque limiter issue

Hey

I was adjusting the secondary cog belt today for deflection and tension and i realized that the super torque limiter was not spinning straight.Yes the big 56 tooth has a deflection of .020 of a inch when it is spinning. The shaft look to be straight but i want to have your opinion. The system was probably like that at the end of the season but i just didnt realized it.

By the way, one guy bought a brand new Top Gun 2 years ago at AD BOIVIN and he notice the same thing than me.Ad boivin was claiming it was normal and didnt want to change it.Mine is still waranty until end of december ....

Can someone check his to tell me some feedback.0 inch of snow in Québec  Thinking a bit to chaine drive ....

Thank you

What model?

You friend's 2007 Top Gun has a four pully system and belt length that is specific to it and the 2008 enduro/trail models, otherwise all 503F, 600HO's and 2008 Mountain 800HO's came with the same gear ratio.

2007 Top Gun- 800HO/2008 800HO Enduro 1360mm cog belt, 30t top, 56t bottom, tensioner, and slack pully.

2008 800Trail- 1360mm cog belt, 30t top, 52t bottom, tensioner, and slack pully.

2002-2004 503F/2004-2006 600HO/2008 800HO Mountain- 1280mm cog belt, 28t top, 56t bottom, and tensioner pulley.

model

My friend was a 30t 56t ratio with a fourth pulley and i have a 600 outlaw with 28t 56t ratio and 3 pulley plus the aluminium plate that hold the idling whell on the outside like the 2008 model i think.

But my question is ,if it matter to have some wabling on the bottom pulley where the torque limiter.I like my machine to run straight and good and .020 seem a bit too much but if they came stock like that all ride if not,all see what i can do.

Pat, here's what you should do : pull that thing out of there and put your dial indicator ON the shaft itself and turn it, then you'll really know. I don't think they've used a very good steel alloy for all our stock driveshafts, I think it's just mild steel. So there's a possibility you've bent your driveshaft 0.010" on a hard impact. There's also a possibility that the torque limit-her assembly is off by 0.010" so you get a reading of 0.020" (goes up 0.010", then down 0.010")

If the driveshaft is bent, ask for a warranty. If they refuse to give you warranty and still tell you it's normal that the driveshaft is 0.010" off, well... I don't know what to say except a bunch of french crap like "mangez-en un châr de marde tabarnack, j'va l'régler l'problème moué-même sti !"

With the chain drive you get rid of all these problems, frustration and it's one less spare part you gatta carry when you go out.

not sure about this

"With the chain drive you get rid of all these problems, frustration and it's one less spare part you gatta carry when you go out."TLK

not sure if its worth having to carry a spare masterlink for the chain drive, they seem to take up alot of space and its alot of extra weight....haha

and what are the dimensions you give addict, 280mm and 360mm? i know my 503 belt is 1280mm long

...
30-52 ????
Really ???
Wasn't it 32-56 on the trail version ? The '08 flyer said 32-56 if i'm not wrong.
If they went 52 on the bottom, then that means they went with smaller torque limiter discs ?

Anyone has an '08 trail ? Sledr2 ?

The pulley is only held "concentrically" in place by the hole diameter in the pulley and the outer diameter of the hub. There is alum to alum contact with some clearance built into it. The more your limiter slips over time the greater this clearance will be.

Tighten the set screws and run it. .020" out is no problem.

drive shaft bent

I have strip down the shaft last night and the drive shaft is bent by .016 of a inch and when i install back the torque limit-her and take measurement on the inside of the tls,I get .028 .so my drive shaft is bent and it makes my measurement greater on the tls because it is offset.Do i have to worry because the d shaft or like you said sled2r it is good like that.

With that kind of runout on the end of your shaft you should check it more closely, you may have hit something hard and it could be bent in the middle.

That's what I think too, it bent in the middle and it woobles at each ends.

Good thing you've only bent it, being the heaviest guy in the Army, Rudeawakening snapped his right in the middle (!!!) leaving him in quite a heavy trouble to get back to his trailer !

That probaby happened once when you landed very hard, Expert X suspension being what it is without the relocation brackets : it got the track so ridiculously tight near the end of the travel (and considering the weight of the machine & rider getting on the landing or hitting something):), it actually created such a torque that it bent your driveshaft in the middle. That's how I think it happened.

You should take it out of there and check it.

No warranty !

Ok

I have called the factory friday afternoon and like you said Thierry, they said it was normal,That i have probably hit something under the snow. That said, there is some snow falling right now in saguenay,so i have install back my torque limiter with the same wabling and all probably buy a bullet chromoly driveshaft from sled2r and install it when i receive it.The shaft should andle a first whip of a gas for the begining of season.

And i hope it wont snap like rudeawaking d shaft.I have install a sled2r retrofit swing arm and when i am colapsing the suspension with no spring in it,My track does not tight like it was doing before. You can see (with the suspension in my new holes in the front)That the suspension is going back a bit, but the track can still move a litle bit when fully colapse.

Jimo ,send me a email when you receive your chain drive ,if i am going to quebec in the next week all stop at your place.

Thanks for the help !
