Too much change is ruining our sport.

Epa regs. has the manufacturers scrambling. This is causing prices to skyrocket and quality to drop. Both of these problems are keeping me from buying a new sled. Now a somewhat depenable sled costs a lot and is heavy and underpowered. Or a lightweight powerful sled is expensive and will be broke down as often as you use it.
Is anyone else waiting to see if there will be a good reason to give up our old iron?
I hope our sport can survive these changing times.

I agree, another problem is lack of resale this fall a 1000 m would cost me about 10800 now I can buy the same sled for 8400.00 And look at all the fools trying to get that out of there used Junk. Most people cannot take a 4000 hit every Year.

Another thing to think Of is when these regulations come into effect and the goverment wants to enforce them the aftermarket is done. JUst like the 07.5 and newer diesels, Yes you can do things too them but it could mean voiding warranty and fines.

i agree with you guys on this, BUT the resale on our older sled's that don't have to meet the regs should go through the roof.

Hate to break this to you but if someone told you that snowmobiling was a cheap sport---They lied to you .

I'm with you 100% high time. Prices are outrageous and performance is lagging behind what a guy could find in the year 2003. I'm personally not a fan of rider forward but that's pretty much all that is available. I rode this weekend with a friend of mine who purchased a new D8, after a month of tuning it still doesn't run quite as strong as his mildly modded 2003 VE 800, but at least it's close. We ran a few rutted steep chutes, my old style dinosauris blew up them like it was on a rail. The dragon bobbled in the ruts and takes a lot of muscle to hold a straight line through the chop. New and improved doesn't always mean new and improved, one step forward two steps back seems to be a better fit.

So why then if the new sleds suck so bad are the old sleds going for 2 to 4k less each season????

Ahhhh what are ya gonna do??? The seadooers and outboard guys were saying the same stuff when their 2 strokes were banned from many lakes. Now look , they have 350hp outboards , supercharged outboards and 1500cc supercharged seadoos. Not so bad;). sj

And a boat motor only cost 15k.

Not quite sure what is wrong with your buddies dragon but the majority of rider think they are FAR superior to the edge chassis. I ride an 07 600RMK 155 and I came from an 03 800RMK VE. I would never go back. Stock pipe, HPS can and slp air box mods and my 600 will out perform my old 800 in nearly every situation. The 800 can't touch it in deep pow. The 600 floats way better. It carves circles around the edge, side hills like a knife and feels way lighter in the air. The ergos are much more comfortable, All for way under ten grand. 2000+ powder miles with no problems and I'm only on my 3rd belt. I for one think the new technology is an improvement.
Now if you were talking about the SkiDoo X(tremely)P(roblematic), I might agree.

Ok, put it this way.

Yes, the new iron is the best handling, but there's a lot of sleds out there for half the price that can run with them with less issues. My 1000 mod. King is one. It's probably worth 5 grand and is still one of the best climbers and deep snow sleds out there. If I do need to work on it, it's easy.
I need better hardware before I can justify a new sled. It will have to run great and not break down. Especially since they are so hard to work on now.

Owen,,,, dude,,,,, reality check time. Your sled may have a resale value of 5000 but it cost a shiiiitload more than that. With what you have in that thing you could buy any sled out there and have plenty left over. Sure it will hang with any sled made today but it should with all the work done to it. You didnt get into this sport to save money , on the other hand you dont have to buy a new sled to have a great time , someone who is on a tight budget can go find a sled like yours or mine , spend 1/2 the price of a new sled and have a riot. sj

Well Ya! But I'd probably do the same with any new sled.

Die on the vine? Ship my buddies with the new iron are lucky to get their sled back from the dealer to ride. They have missed a lot of riding this year. That's not right.....

My '02 RMK 800 was definately a pull and go sled, for years. It never left me stranded, and luckily I never blew a crank because they are well known to do so. I don't see the reliability being that bad personally. Anything first year out is bound to have glitches, and every maker has them. That said, my buddy has an '07 600 155 that is completely pull and go, no issues with almost two hard seasons on it and a year of warranty left. Besides that, it rides a heck of a lot better than any edge chassis ever did or ever will. I bet your 1000 Kat hauls up the hill. But it stinks on the bumpy trail too the hill and isn't half the boondocker a rider forward sled is. It can do it, my edge could too, but it is double the work. If you don't think so, you're not being very honest about it IMO.

My next sled is going to be a new generation version, either a RAW Poo or an M Cat. They are simply better.
