Tony Grove/Franklin Basin Snow Conditions

We were up there yesterday. Felt kinda stupid on the way up, as we were the only ones pulling sleds. That is until we turned up the road to Tony's and were passed by a lady who was pulling a motorboat with a wakeboard tower. We heard fom somebody up there that they were not letting people park at Beaver anymore, but there probably wouldn't be much snow in that area anyway. We didn't hear of anyone who came up from Franklin. I'm not saying you can't, just we didn't hear of any. I'd say it was around a half a mile below the lake where we unloaded. I was hoping that there was going to be a lot more snow up there with it being as cool and rainy in the valley as it has been, but there was just a couple inches of new "powder?" The snow up high was holding up pretty good. The snow was mushy only on the way down as we got back towards the lake. It was still a great day, especially after all the clouds broke, and the sun came out. Still hoping to go again on Monday, and then next weekend, before I think about putting the sled into hybernation.

We rode tony's on sunday.
I would say we parked 1.5 to 2 miles before the lake.
Still had plenty of snow up top, ton'ys was rough and beat to hell. (old tracks)
Up high, there was between 4-10inches of snow, heavy powder.
We dropped into white pine and played on some hills, did some water skipping, then made our way to steam mill, then over into steep canyon in franklin.
Snow in steep canyon was 100 times better than tony's... Seemed to be much more over there, and no one had been there, so it wasn't as rough.
We dropped down to our cabin in franklin, about 6500 feet.
We had to ride a few patches of dirt and stay in the trees to make it there.
You could probably drive up to steep in franklin and unload, but only if the road was clear and not too muddy.
I think we passed the mopuntain mod mania guys on our way back to ton'ys as there was a big group heded towards white pine and we saw there trailer parked on the road.
May have been my last ride unless I get a wild hair.
Depending on weather, maybe 3-4 weeks left to leave from tony's.

still plenty up top, pretty nasty down low by the lake. Went on Saturday and parked about a mile from the lake.

Had a great novelty ride fathers day!
Only 2 other guys on sleds up there.
Definately my last ride... Only had to ride a few patches of dirt and dodge some rocks.
Had to head up from the south side of the lake through the campgrounds... Not enough snow to leave from the parking lot north.
Made our way over to white pine and water skipped a bit, then over to the peak just above steam mill (not sure of the name).
Had lunch and found a time capsule up there (looked like a pipe bomb).
Didn't read all of the notes, as there were a lot, but one was from 1991.
Pretty interesting reading everyones experiences as it is not an easy place to get to.
One guy talked of going off a 35 foot cliff and possibly breaking his ankle.

Overall a fun day riding in shorts and long sleeve shirt.
If anyone knows the name of the peak, pleasy reply.

^how was it?
I am thinking of a possible fathers day ride.
I assume there is enough snow to leave from the lake?

Sorry for the late report...

Had 6-12" new and it was snowing on and off. Only had to pull 1 sled out of the trees.

It was a really good ride to end the year on.

Rode Saturday and the snow wasn't too bad but the Rangers told us in so many words that the season was over whether we liked it or not. All the campers were pissed off because of the "noise" we were making.

Not bad for a summer ride though.
