togwotee lodge.

So it's ok for the lodge employees to not give 100% all the time because dealing with customers can wear them down? Would it be ok for your sled shop not to fix your sled 100% because fixing sleds can wear them down?

A guest is someone you invite to stay at your home. A customer is someone who pays to stay at your lodge.

I agree. That's why they classify places like that as a service industry.

$600 tab in a bar is a significant amount. Lots of beer and food, no matter what said. If the bar is low staffed, than it really becomes dependant upon the person working. I know what you mean, after a long days of riding, sometimes the last thing you want to do is get up to get a round of drinks.

I go to the bar around home quite regularly and whenever they are low staffed, a bar tender will never become a waitress at the same time....it actually becomes risky for the bar tender to leave behind the bar.......responsibilities!

I like Togwotee and like staying there. Staying in the cabins is nice too, along with the food, and service we have experienced. Our experience there is better than what we had in Dubois.

That sucks! They need a good staff meeting & refresher course it seems. We've had some rip roaring times at many lodges in Wy, Id, and Co over the years. Nothing like that. Commercialism?

Luke,

we didn't stay at the lodge, we stayed in some small town down the mtn about 30 minutes away. anyway, we went up for a good dinner on our last night in town, and I agree, the bar/food service was brutal. I've been in Cooke and West many times with 10 times better service than received at Tog Mtn lodge.

Then they're in the wrong business.
They are providing a service to people who are paying good money for it.
If I were concidering a trip to that area I would not bother staying anywhere that the folks running it treated me as though I was in their way and bothering them.

I hope the owners of the lodge see this and realize that the bad day had by some of their employees has potentially lost them some future business.

I am sure you payed GOOD MONEY and feel like you got ripped, but if you have any bad money by all means pm me for my address and send it right on over. I agree if you can't provide service get the heck out.

Bring it over?

Hell, I'll one up ya and pick it up....:D

I was along on this trip with luke and couldn't believe how poor the service was and how rude the employee's were. From the bar staff (or lack there of) to the front desk clerk. He made a point to tell us he was a "tree hugger" and could care less what we did to the state because he was from california. Then to have 2 people approach us about tipping the wait staff was unreal.

I think the biggest problem is the emplyees, Most look like they are on a witness protection program...... And that goes with many places out there...............:face-icon-small-con

Not to get off topic, but service and accomodations at the Spruce Lodge in Grand Mesa, CO leaves alot to be desired. (The riding was awesome by the way!)
Spent 3 days there over the holidays. The place was advertised as having a "full restaurant and bar." Anyone who knows the area, there's 4 lodges up on that side of the Mesa (1 is closed), and Spruce is the only one w/ a restaurant, otherwise it's a 45 min drive for food.
They didn't serve breakfast, in fact the owners never showed up to open the lodge until after 9am. Lunch and dinner was your choice of..................chili or stew, oh and bread and crackers. Did get some chili the first day for lunch, it was good, but it took 'em almost 30min to nuke 2 bowls of chili. Went to the bar once, couldn't get a drink 'cause the stoner running the place (it was about 5pm and the owners were gone for the day already, don't live up there, and they shut the lodge down by 6 or 7pm.) couldn't find the keys to the liquor cabinet. Finally he broke into the beer fridge and got us a beer.
The cabins had almost no heat. -15 F at night and our cabin had a gas FP and a little elect space heater. Kept the cabin about 40F at the floor and maybe 50F at waist height. Had to bring in my trailer heater to warm the place up. In fact the people staying next to us were down at the Grand Mesa Lodge looking for a cabin w/ heat after their first night at Spruce.
Charged $5/gal for sled gas, only $3.60/gal 3 mi down at the Grand Mesa Lodge, and it took the owner 30min to come out and fill up the sleds. I went in (after 9am when they showed up) and asked for fuel. Said he'd be out in a minute. I took both machines down to the fuel tanks, warmed them up, waited, then went back up to the Lodge to see what was going on. He was sitting inside watching TV.
Charged $2 per phone call for a short call to Denver (to check on the kids). Reasonable I guess, but not after a cold $160/night cabin.
Suffice it to say, I'd never stay there again and wouldn't reccomend it to anyone either.

On the Flipside, had lunch at the Electric Mtn Lodge, on the other side of the Mesa. Service was great, food was awesome, good drinks, gas cheaper, and the cabins also rented for less and are much much nicer.

I would also agree that the staff at Togwotee is more concerned with socializing with each other than trying to serve people while in the bar. While we waited for our drinks the wait staff continued to socialize with each other while we had to go to the bar.

Hey AZ800. I couldn't agree more. Especially on Electric mountain lodge. Mike and Steve are great. You should post this on the Colo thread to make sure the Colo riders all see it.

I am not trying to burst your bubble, it is a good post, please post in CO riding as well, lots of people need to see it!!!

Luke and others, sorry to hear of that in Tog!! Go to the horns!!! ;) or Come to CO!!!!!

I'll bet they were just mad because you sprayed baby powder all over the room & beat the $%&# out of the door to your room.;)

i agree with hiherthanu we stay at tog 3-5 times a year and service at the lodge is good with the exception of the bar we always get treated like crap when we go in there and we have always been good customers and tipped very good. Thats why we just rent cabins and bring in our own boose. That place is terrible on the customer service end of things i shouldn't have to beg to get a drink when the only thing the bar tender is doing is sitting ther BSing with the rest of the staff and ignoring their customers.

Rob

Funny, we have had the same problem year after year!!!! It has always been tough to get served there, no matter what time of day. As mentioned, the staff is too busy visiting with each other to serve the customers.

We had terrible service up at Tog also. Rode up there for lunch one day and the waitress didn't bring back anybodies change. She just asked, ya'll just givin' that change to me? Who asks for their tip?! I paid with a card and she never brought it back after a 20 min. l went up to the bar and asked for my card back. All she said was yeah I suppose you would. Needless to say I don't tip for terrible service and she got more than she deserved.

If somebody knows the owners or managers they should send them a link to this thread. Our group was there the same time Luke was and I don't have any bad bar stories since we drank in our cabin, but the check in, check out, and paying for meals was brutal. I don't think they could have been any slower. I never once got a nice friendly "HI" from any employees just other riders.

If they weren't such a monopoly on the mtn they would get the picture real fast.

What about Line Shack, Crooked Creek, and Sawmill?? They're not that far away. I don't think I've heard anything but praise for the Line Shack. Never stayed there myself, but I have been there to the bar and to eat. Consider going there instead of TML.

Rob

If you got there at 3:00, why didn't you just go riding and not hang out in the bar for 7 hours?
