Today's my Anniversary FML

Yesterday after a full day at my shop working on my sleds I came home only to find my best friend for the last twelve years not acting normal. My dog Zeus,a Doberman has been doing very well for a dog of his age untill yesterday.
He was normal when I left, had his morning ritual dog treat as we entered the kitchen.
Now he just keeps walking around with his head hanging down, didn't eat his supper but I did manage to get him to eat a jelly bean and after a bunch of coaxing a piece of sausage while eating my supper.
Today I woke up and am so very glad when I leaned over while laying in bed found him to still be alive, but he still isn't eating but did have a drink of water.
Today is my anniversary and I don't know what too do.He just doesn't seem happy,he never pants and thats what he has been doing while awake since yesterday.
I really don't want to put him down as I hope he will get better and at the same time I don't want him to suffer,he's such a good dog,we have been very lucky to have him in our lives for so long...FML
I am having a rough time dealing with this and honestly don't know what to do...

You have to admit he's a good looking dog eh?These pics are from two years ago,man time sure flys...

Great looking pooch....

Geez Dave I'm so sorry to hear about your dog:( Man sometimes I think I would rather go before my dog. I had an incident with mine a few months back, similar symptoms and whining ( I swear my dogs a mute, never makes noise or barks). I took him to the veterinary hospital overnight and got x-rays and stuff done, he had something stuck in his digestive track. The stress that caused me was out of control. I feel for ya, get him to the vet..

Get him evaluated at the vet. He will be able to give you direction. Prayers are with you and your pooch.

Happy Anniversary.

Sorry to hear Dave. Get your buddy to the vet asap. There could be an easy fix. Many times we pass stuff off as 'oh, he's just an old dog' and leave things. But often it's treatable and we can extend their lives if we get on it right away. Best wishes.

I agree. As most of you know, I love dogs. I have 5 of them. They're creatures of habit so I would get him to the vet as soon as possible. Good luck and let us know. We become very attached to them, don't we?

I want to take him to the vet,its just that as a Doberman he is a little weird. He won't go out the front door and you can't get him off the property. He hasn't left the house in years, just doesn't want to go out in the big scary world.
At well over a hundred pounds, maybe ten or twenty over and being so old its going to be tough.
Some good news(I hope),he has been drinking lots today and even got him to eat a good boy treat and he told the nieghbor kids off for playing out in the alley...
Its hard to believe how we get attached to our pets,I honestly am having a real rough time with even thinking that I may have to put him down.
I'll be spending as much time with him, scratching his big ol head trying to hide the tears that keep welling up,I have my Grand daughter today...
Thanks for all your kind words and prayers...

He had a long nap in my daughters room and has woke up feeling much cooler,he has stopped panting,he ate a banana and three good boy treats along with a couple of jelly beans.
Yesterday I sprayed round up near the edge of his dog run and maybe got to close to his area,he does like to chew grass and weeds.
I went out and hosed down near his dog run,I really hope this is the problem as I am never going to get him out of the house,at least not alive...darn weird azz Doberman.
Things are definately looking up as yesterday he wouldn't drink or really eat and he is now holding his head up.

you may be on to something here...just try and clean him out abit..warm milk etc..??...sometimes a vet will drop by your house on the way to and from work if your somewhat on his travel path since the dog is difficult to travel..
hope for the best for the dogs recovery..

He has been very mopey. He was very hot to touch him and was panting all the time.
He was also slobbering a lot and swallowing and smacking his lips.
He wouldn't eat or drink.
This afternoon he has eaten banana, three leftover sausages from supper and a few jelly beans.
He is cooler to touch him now and has stopped panting.
As he was fine yesterday morning before I left to the shop,I sprayed some "Round Up" to kill some weeds near his dog run yesterday morning(I think he ate some grass that was sprayed).
I'll never take a chance with weed killer again,I'll pull them manually...We are still not positive everything is okay as he is living longer than alot
of Dobermans.
He doesn't look bloated,he is rather lumpy though as old age has been hard on him...so Ruffy no need for pictures!lol

Thanks for the update. I again join in with all of your friends here to wish you and the pooch the best of luck. Prayers and positive vibes will continue to come your way!!

Well he spent most of the day today sleeping in my daughters room.He came out about an hour ago and has been pacing around since then and has started panting again.
I think I am going to have to get some friends over and get him loaded into my pick up.
I hate to say it,maybe it was wishful thinking but I am afraid to say he isn't looking too good.
I hate too see him suffer and he looks like he maybe.I hope the vet has better news.
I'll let you all know what happens...:face-icon-small-sad

Thank you everyone for all your kind words.
My wife, daughter and myself just got back from the vets.I am real sorry to say this, but we had to put Zeus down.
What a terrible day,he had a good long life and the issues he had only started yesterday afternoon.
I couldn't ask for a better dog and am not sure wheather or not I will get another...I am at a real loss of words right now:face-icon-small-sad
