I have chewed the Cope for 23 years and my lil girl asked me to quit so cold turkey and 6 month later i am still staying strong...i did do the Smokey Mtn fake stuff...but it tastes like chit...good luck and stay strong...

yeah im hoping it doesn't turn into a life long addiction... Started with Long cut Skoal cherry.... then switched to Skoal mint long cut... now onto skoal mint pouches, doing multiple pouches at a time just because its cleaner... It's hard being a college student with not much to do when studying besides thrown in a dip... any help would be appreciated!

Its no joke! 3 years ago I was diagnosed with **** cancer, had a large chunk of my tongue removed. Scary stuff, no I never chewed or smoked.. Just lucky I guess. Quit now, better in the long run!

I have seen many forms of addiction in my short stay in medicine, but BY FAR the most common complaint is getting rid of a tobacco addiction. Much, much worse than alcohol. Whether that be smoking or chew.

My advice, get an appointment with a doc you trust to talk about what is out there to help kick the habit. They should help you set some goals too. The longer you wait, the harder it gets, and I think the hardest part is convincing yourself you want to quit.

Best of luck!

I chewed for probably 25 years. I agree you have to really want to quit. I quit cold turkey and will be 3 years in November. Has to be one of the hardest things I ever did. On the bright side... sure makes losing weight feel easy!

quit now or you will get ugly teeth in few years.
a friend of mine, he been doing it since he was 17 in high school, he do that everyday.
About 3 years later, I havent seen him for like a year till we all hang out at the bar and I saw his teeth. Man, he cant get any girls like that! He has so many many cavities and blown teeth from tobacco. We were like we dont want to ask him about his teeth, its rude lol till he said to me "I know what you are thinking about my teeth". I was like yeah lol. He said its from tobacco. If I can remember from what he said it was like 2 or 3 packs a day.

Most smokers and chewers dont like to hear the plain truth.

YOU ARE A DRUG ADDICT... that drug is legal... but still a drug.

Lost my Mom to cancer last year caused by smoking. Way before her time.

Stop now while it is relatively easy and stay healthy

addiction

I smoked for 5 years until quiting 3 years ago. My wife told me to quit many times but just couldnt. I finally decided for myself that it is discusting and was going to be the cause of my death. So i took a little drug called chantix (i think i spelled it right). That is one wicked little pill. Makes you wake up in a cold sweat fighting off demons and stuff.:boxing: However it worked, and to this day have not touched a cig or chewing tobacco.

My advise to you is quit now,or you will wish you had years from now.
It is a drug and it runs your life.

chew is the worst. Think about every time you put a dip in how much your gums hate you. Even tho it feels totally awesome to get a gnarly buzz, just think about your teeth and gums. I know you probably want too keep your teeth. It will be hard but you can do it! It will be weird not having something in your lip for a wile and you will put your tong there, and then start thinking about chewing. You can quit its just all mental.

My dad chewed for years quit cold turkey one day cause somebody said he would never quit and he hasnt chewed in about 20 years but to this day he knows if he ever had a chew it would ruin him again. Thats the problem with nicotine its a nasty addiction that you will fight the rest of your life, but only chewing for three years maybe it wont be so bad quit while you have a chance!!!!!!

So somebody once said... This kid turned 18 tried to chew and the first time he chewed was his last time because he got mouth cancer off one dip... Now I obviously dont believe this one bit...

What do you guys think?

25 years here too but still chewing. Was there anything that helped you? If I could find something that would give off a little burn in the lip.

This addiction is not just as simple as Manning Up!!

MH is correct. This is a drug and a very bad one. The most addicting drug there is and the most difficult to quit. The body goes through severe chemical shock when an everyday used drug is removed from the body.

For me it's not the pyschological symptoms; those are nothing. It's the physical symptoms.

Mine started playing baseball when I was 13. That little circle in the back pocket was cool. Then there are activities we do. Go fishin, in goes a chew. Work on the sled or your truck, in goes a chew. Before you throw on the helmet regardless of the sport, in goes a chew. After a meal, in goes a chew.

To the original poster, please quit while you are young! I know you probably hear it all the time but I cannot stress enough how much easier it is to quit when you are young. I would do it many times and then go duck hunting or fishing with someone who was using it and bang...

If you keep doing it, it gets much more difficult to quit and then you start moving the chew around to other areas of the mouth from the advice of your Dentist. Once you wear the lower lip out, you will begin using your upper lips.

Might sound impossible but it is very easy.
