I chewed for probably 25 years. I agree you have to really want to quit. I quit cold turkey and will be 3 years in November. Has to be one of the hardest things I ever did. On the bright side... sure makes losing weight feel easy!
25 years here too but still chewing. Was there anything that helped you? If I could find something that would give off a little burn in the lip.
This addiction is not just as simple as Manning Up!!
MH is correct. This is a drug and a very bad one. The most addicting drug there is and the most difficult to quit. The body goes through severe chemical shock when an everyday used drug is removed from the body.
For me it's not the pyschological symptoms; those are nothing. It's the physical symptoms.
Mine started playing baseball when I was 13. That little circle in the back pocket was cool. Then there are activities we do. Go fishin, in goes a chew. Work on the sled or your truck, in goes a chew. Before you throw on the helmet regardless of the sport, in goes a chew. After a meal, in goes a chew.
To the original poster,
please quit while you are young! I know you probably hear it all the time but I cannot stress enough how much easier it is to quit when you are young. I would do it many times and then go duck hunting or fishing with someone who was using it and bang...
If you keep doing it, it gets much more difficult to quit and then you start moving the chew around to other areas of the mouth from the advice of your Dentist. Once you wear the lower lip out, you will begin using your upper lips.
Might sound impossible but it is very easy.
