Does anybody know where a guy can find a smoking deal on tires? I need 315/70/17

I just put 4 "Avalanche" 17" studded snows on my wife's SUV for $600 + tax

I don't know who makes them, but they are MADE IN THE USA!!!!!

I'm sure you'll need higher ply rating = more money.

Good luck Ralph & buy American!

Buying American tires is very hard. I am looking for snow tires on my car.

I was set on buying a set of Green Diamond Snow tires. Basically an environmentally friendly tire that is made in the USA. The problem is that there is very little to no supply on these. The company is on the verge of going under if they haven't already.

It is not because people were not buying their tires, it is because they cannot keep up with production and people had to go to other tires after they had some issues (which is normal for any tire manufacture) and Green Diamond could not get them replacements.

Cooper is another tire made in the USA.

Goodyear is an American company (Ohio) but not all of their tires are made here. At least the profit stays here.

Something else to consider is that just because it is made in the USA doesn't mean the rubber was produced in the USA. ;-)

Here is TireRack.com blog on American made tires:

Ralph, besides cheap are you looking for anything else? Personally I have found that I don't buy the cheapest tire because it will not last. Spending a little more money now will mean it last longer and save you money in the long run.

Define smoking deal? What do you want to spend? Do you want just an All-terrain tire, snow tires, mud, do you need a higher rated (ply) tire (Do Canadians say "tyre" LOL)

I will say cheap and buying American do not really go together. Tires made in the USA are union made. If you want a cheap tire, you will more than likely be buying Chinese.

I am a fan of Tire Rack. You will have to get them mounted yourself but that shouldn't be hard to find a place to do that.

They have tires from $736 up to almost $1300. Shipping for these is roughly $130.

They do have the Yokahoma Geolander H/T for $760. I've been on these tires and they are a good tire. Drove these on a higher load rating on a Duramax and also a regular load rating in a Toyota 4-Runner.

After paying my over priced mechanic I have about $600 to spend. I'd put smaller ones on but that would just look stupid with the lift. The smallest I can go is 285/75/817. Tire prices are, percentage wise, possibly the most inflated expenditure out there. I remember buying 36" tires for my truck in HS and getting them new for $160 each, now you pay over $300 for the same tires. Everything is so danged expensive, no wonder why peeps are broke. They have to get credit cards and loans to put shoes on there trucks.

How much was a gallon of gasoline when you were in HS? Since tires are an oil product, just like gasoline you can expect the cost of them to rise with the price of oil.

Not by that much. Gasoline is made solely from oil, wheres tires are not. Rubber can also be recycled, where gas just burns away. It's just another case of "they need it, so lets f*ck em and raise the price." I know that there is nothing that can be done about it but it still pisses a guy off

That tire size is the stock size for a hummer h2. I used to buy them all the time off craigslist with the hummer wheels. Then turn around and sell the hummer wheels to the Dodge cummins crowd as these guys love this wheel on their truck.

You end up getting the tires for almost nothing.

I've done this maybe 3 times and actually made money on every deal.

Who sold those to you Bill?

A small local service station that supports our trail.

The beauty of it all is I didn't have to ask price, I just said the size I wanted, told him to pick up my wife's SUV at work & put them on.
Didn't even have to ask for "American made". I think he knew that was a given.

Not trying to talk smart or anything, but it's these small businesses we have got to continue to support if we want them around.
I'm sorry, but I don't want to buy my tires at a damned Walmart.

Gotta make sure that you are not buying foreign made 5h!t though.
WalMart sells a lot of foreign made 5h!t.

nah I dont buy tires there, I bought my tires (4) for my silverado for $535 from Quality Truck Services in Denison. my tires are now 2 years old and still more left!

yes and no, it cost money and ENERGY (cough oil) to produce even a recycled tire. Very few tires are made from recycled rubber. People don't like riding their family on recycled rubber. Not saying it is or is not safe but many manufactures have had an issue with that. They sell it as recycled and the competitor starts asking the customer if they are alright with their family driving down the road on "used" rubber.

The lawsuites that started flying a few years ago (probably 7) over tires and vehicle roll-overs caused a significant price hike as well.
