Tighten up play in steering.

check the collar that the steering shaft goes through our 800 was a bit sloppy so we just shaved it down some to tighten it up a bit.

I noticed that the pivot point of the plate where the steering linkage mounts was the slop point. I am guessing that tightening the bolt may bring this back to new.

I dont remember how much play there was at new but it doesn't seem right now. The bars move 1.5" and it sounds loose down front. Was this like this at new and I did not pay attention to it? I guess I may have to pull it apart and figure it out unless this is normal.

No, there should be no slop. On my 800 the steering was tight and then got loose on the end of the first ride with that much play. The nut from the service bulletin looked ok pre ride but when I tore it all down today to install the Rasmussen steering swing extender I found something interesting.
The "D" in the steering arm post was miss aligned, but only by a little and when they tightened it down at the factory it smashed half way down into place. Thats why steering was tight at first and then got sloppy later even with the nut looking ok. Maybe take yours apart and see if the same thing happened.

Watch the video to see how to disassemble it. BTW love the steering extender, works like a charm and is easy to do.

Oh ya, the post has to be completely removed to see if the "double D" was seated correctly. I had to dremel 2 metal spurs down on the female side of the double D from it being smashed in there. Then it would finally all go back together fine.

hmmm, female double D's...:face-icon-small-ton
