Thumb gets cold, any ideas

When I was about 17 I had my thumb cut off and they re-attached it. Ever since its had poor circulation and it gets cold as hell when riding and its my right thumb so I cant really tuck it into my glove cause I need it to fun the throttle. I've thought about gettting a left hand throttle but dont really want to go that route. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the old thumb warm. I have thought about installing an external type of thumb warmer but dont know if that will work or not. I have stuffed them hot hands things inside my glove and they work for a while.

You might take your favorite riding gloves to a seamstress along with the biggest thickest gloves you can find and have a seamstress remove the thumb on the heavy glove and sew it right over the thumb of your riding gloves which should keep your thumb warm...

I've used gloves from that manufacture at work for working in cold storages and they work well. The ones they gave us weren't waterproof though.

Roll the throttle under the bars and use your fingers.

I would definatly give this a shot also. Although if you have a thumb warmer already and your thumb is getting cold this might not help you.

When using hand warmers like the air activated kind don't put them against your palm, put them against the inside of your wrist. The blood bound for the fingers passes there first.

The back of your hand is OK too but the wrist is better.

Gauntlets on the bars or as mentioned flip the flipper so you use your fingers not your thumb.

Backcountryislife on here does it and loves it. In fact it would be nice if he shared some pics and what to do for it.

Flipping your throttle around to become a finger throttle is about a 2 minute mod. However be sure you have good handguards, such as the ones BCIL runs. The normal flimsy ones won't help at all when you hit a branch and it pins the throttle for you. I have run mine as a finger throttle and loved it, except in really cold weather when I was wearing thicker gloves. In that instance you sometimes catch the material from your middle finger under the throttle preventing you from pinning it. With thinner gloves its the bomb. It will also keep your thumb a lot warmer by allowing it to wrap around the bar and enjoy the heated grips.

Try a dirtbike twist throttle, chad at cr racing did this to the Rated R sled he built I think.

Take a pair of gloves and have a seamstress sew in a thumb warmer to the backside of the glove and wire it to the sled with a set of male and female plugs so you can plug and unplug it! I mean it's not like that hand moves off the handle bar when your riding!

Sounds kinda hick but I think it's a great idea myself!

I really want to try the finger throttle but I want to have a guard over it(like other poster said to keep from having branches or snow forcing it open) but I don't lke fiddling with the standard plastic guards. Does anyone make a billet aluminum part that would cover the flipper flipped around for use by the finger?

Doesn't the thumb warmer work enough or does your sled have one?
I'm always having to shut my thumb warmer off.

Your high, I honestly can't think of something more dangerous then snowmobiling with a twist throttle IMHO

Why?

I think it's impractical, because of the twist mechanism possibly freezing up, and getting heated grips to work. But IMHO there is nothing with better control than a twist throttle... Which is why bikes use 'em...

What about running engine coolant in the bars. No freezing throttle and your hands are warmed by coolant ?

The thumb warme works fine but its not enough I guess. Damn thumb feels like pins and needles are going through it. Wondering if a set of expensive gloves such as a lpair of klim's would work.
