Thumb gets cold, any ideas

I've tried the arctic fx or something like that. Tried the factory skidoo gloves, Yamaha gloves, etc.... And none seem to do the trick.

do a search on gloves and then go shopping.

Also what temps are you riding in?

Just another route you might be able to pursue... I ride with an older lady once in a while and she takes natural products like vitamins and minerals and maybe some other stuff too, but she says it really improves her circulation.

The thumb warme works fine but its not enough I guess. Damn thumb feels like pins and needles are going through it. Wondering if a set of expensive gloves such as a lpair of klim's would work.

redbull,
Are you sure it's the cold and not the constant pressure on your thumb? Certainly the injury affected the circulation in your thumb but you might have nerve issues as well.

Just an idea but put a strip of thin (1/8" or 1/4") memory foam on the face of your throttle.

Why?

I think it's impractical, because of the twist mechanism possibly freezing up, and getting heated grips to work. But IMHO there is nothing with better control than a twist throttle... Which is why bikes use 'em...

honestly, too much rider in put on the bars throwing the sled from side to side, leaning way out and what not. Same reason quads come with a thumb throttle as you have to turn so much on the bars, and a motorcycle is more about leaning then input on the bars. i ride dirt bikes, and race street bikes and when racing street bikes you don't put any input into the bars its all about leaning with foot control! Try a twist throttle and see how it works for you!

Just a thought to the circulation in your thumb. Leach therapy was big twenty-thirty years ago for this type of injury. They put leaches on the end of your thumb to promote blood flow to the injured part. Prompting the blood veins and vessels to regrow.

While I never got it done myself, it was mentioned as a possibility when I ran my left hand thru the tablesaw at age 12 and crushed a finger at 18 and numerous other serious hand injuries involving tendon and nerve damage. My hands have been thru hell, more scar tissue than skin. They do get colder than the non-injured portions for sure. But for me I take numerous pairs of gloves in my pack and the next pair to wear in my coat and warm. Whenever I stop I put the warmed ones on.

I have never seriously injured my thumbs but it is a work around for my fingers and I live and ride in Alaska.

years ago skating on outdoor rinks at 40 below we used products on our feet that was like a heat producing sauve..name was.. "heet.." or something like that..smelled like menthol..
You won;t find a klim glove that will work for ya..get a good guantlet glove with just thumb or thumb and finger..military..??

Honestly, rolling the throttle to finger control gives more control, will keep your fingers warmer, and it's a 10 second thing to do.

Loosen the throttle block, rotate throttle, as it starts getting tension on the grips where the warmer wire goes under the grip, cut a small slip in the grip to relieve tension.

Warmers still work, thumb is under the bar & warmer, and a set of good handguards like the cycras or some gauntlets would help a bunch as well!

Oh, and the sled is just much cooler since your throttle is now facing the right way.
