Bowlen fires Shanahan after 14 seasons as head coach and VP. I agree his personnel moves were very questionable and, IMO, was wearing to many hats.
He should have been stripped of front office duties and left to coach the team.

No matter what coach they get, do they really think he'll be a better one the Mike?

Chargers sheep ought to be happy, they are gurauteed the AFC west for years to come. Oh who am I kidding, they have Norve Turner with his great wisdom.

I would think that's the best fit. They have a good team in place, just need solid leadership. The trump card may be Jones. I don't think Shanny would
put up with his crap although Parcels did it. If they got Shanny, I give them two years at most to be in the big game.
 
He would butt heads with TO... TO would have to go and probably will anyway, along with Pacman.

My take:

Denver has the best opening in the league in a long time. They have offensive personal in place for years to come, a owner committed to winning
in a semi-large market meaning he's not afraid to open the checkbook. With
a hand full of quality pass rushers, sized backers, safeties and a corner, the team would be set. The had a top 5 offense all season WITHOUT a running game. The offense should be easy if they retain Bates and Turner.

I think Cower will jump all over this as would Marty. I'll bet it's even sweet enough to pull Parcells out of his upcoming contract end.

Shanny go's to the Browns, they have a young q-b in place with a solid starter. They do have the same problem as Denver... "D"!

These owners got to quit listening to fans & sportswriters & go back to making sound decisions based on insincts, guts & knowledge.

not a broncos fan here, but my whole family bleeds blue and orange. they are all apalled. we have atheroy when we hire help.........be careful who you fire, you might get someone worse. those are big shoes to fill.

2) Ryan Leaf (OMG SD, this ranks with Norv Turner)
3) Al Davis (duh)
4) Al Davis (duh)
5) Walker (traded from D for everything)
6) Jimmy Johnson (fired/resigned by JJ)
7) Dan Schinder (owning a football team)
8) Norv Turner (head coach anywhere)
9) Clinton Portis (trade 4 Champ)
10) Dope smokin Ricky (12 picks Mike? One of those picks was Champ!Gawd dang that was dumb)
11) Marty fired from SD (They would have at least 2 rings if he was still there!)

... most of these are in recent years and not in any order.

Not promoting Tony Dungy to head coach was foolish as well.
 
I have never bought into Mike Shanahan being in charge of player personell, he is a great coach no doubt, but he has made some brutal front office decisions the last few years (some coaching ones too) and he is being fired for his player personell moves more than his coaching.

What success has he had without John Elway? With all that supposed talent on offense, where is a stable running game? Their O-line is no where near what it used to be and thats why Cutler has to be out of the pocket so much and why their cant sustain a consistant running game. 3rd round pick on Mo Clarrett (take a look at some of the RB's who went later)? Their defense is GARBAGE besides Baily. These are all moves that he is in charge of and that have totally been botched the last few seasons.
 
to play devils advocate here. it's been many years since the broncs made the show, sooooooo, maybe it's time to shake things up a bit, and getting rid of the coach and getting a new one may be the answer!!!!!!!

Actually there are a lot of coaches ready for the move! Mike Martz split from the niners this morning, Miranelli from Detroit, Mangoini(sp) from the Jets( not a Jets fan but he got shafted!)...Bill Cowher does not want to coach anymore he likes his analyst job tooo much! Heck what about Holgram?

Actually I am not a big Denver fan but imagine what a Mike Martz throw happy offense would be like with Jay Cutler and that offensive line in Denver! Teams would not know what hit them run or pass deadly offense...also Denver should go after LT's back up in San Diego (Sprawles) that would sure shake up that division rivalary:face-icon-small-win
