thinking of pulling the trigger on a 2013 cat

i'm thinking of buying a second sled now , my thoughts are the new 2013 1100 turbo in 162

after a whole bunch of searching and reading many bad reports on the 12's , i like some honest answers from those in the know ,

ok here it goes
i don't really trust sled dealers to much as they tell ya anything to get your money , and smile as you leave , worse then used car dealers

on the new 13's have they fixed all the little troubles from the 12's , like the belts blowing, oil leaks , fires, reverse troubles , can someone tell if i should just maybe wait another year till they get it all figured out , i like the new track and love the looks of that sled in the all black , the new belts are even more money , like $250 which will add up fast if they still blowing up ,

my biggest concern is the motor , how good is that 4 stroke motor , i'v seen or read about a few 12's blowing up , seen a video of a 12 on fire

how many miles can one get on the motor if they take good care of it ,

and last , the sled comes with a 2 year warranty , for $1500 bucks more i can get another 3 years , so thats like 5 years on the sled , i think thats a good deal , most warrantys they say to stay clear of , i think myself this is almost to good to be true , $1500 and good for 3 years , am i missing something

can i get some advice from you cat guys on your opinions about the new 2013
thanks

The 1100Ts never had that big of a belt problem. The belt gets hot, but it doesn't blow consistently at 100 - 300 miles like the 800 did/does. I'm not 100% sure, but the jackshaft in the 1100Ts I think can come loose like the 800s, but supposedly because of the better/shorter Torque Control Link on the 1100Ts it is less of an issue. There's sticky clutches out there, but it might be just that they were never cleaned of the machining oil at the dealer.

Not sure what oil leaks you are talking about. There are really two oil "leaking" issues on the 1100T:
1) Upside down it leaks oil. This is less of a problem than a Yamaha motor, but still an issue. There's a $200 kit for addressing this issue.
2) The oil line from the sump to the motor is a metal line that rubbed on the exhaust bracket. There was a couple oil fires from this, but it was even rarer than the fuel line thing I mention below. An update to the 2012s is to turn this pipe so it isn't a problem.

The fires you heard about were mostly related to the fuel filter bracket being installed backwards and thus having the fuel line run too close to the jackshaft. There was a recall and doubt that many sleds still have this problem, especially 2013.

I've only read about a single 1100T motor blowing up. It was reflashed and doing a lake race. Supposedly excessive detonation killed it or something.

The 1100T is stone reliable, and I would plan for at least 20,000 miles out of the motor. As for power, if you are going to be riding it at alitude it will have something like 50% more power than any 800 stock for stock. I can assure you when you are riding the thing it feels like it has 50% more power.

As for the warranty, check to see what it covers. After 5 years or so the non-engine related pieces are going to start falling apart. Motor mounts, idler wheels, shocks (unless you rebuild them and such), etc. If the warranty doesn't cover that stuff then all you have is a warranty on a motor that isn't going to fail out of all likelyhood.

Last, but not least, the reverse. It was a steaming pile of ****. The revised edition seems slightly better, but who knows...

like the belts blowingNot a big problem for most 1100, big problem for the 800's, with 650 miles I have very little belt dust.,
oil leaks I had no problem with oil leaks
fires That was a bad hose routing that should have been fixed
reverse troubles The 12's now have the same stuff as the 13's
can someone tell if i should just maybe wait another year till they get it all figured out ,Thats a million dollar question

No matter what year, they need more venting.

They changed mostly everything on the 2013's that I hate about my 2012. That being said I LOVE my 2012. Coming off of a modded 07 M1000 it didnt feel that much heavier and has a crap load more power. unless you are coming off of a 350 hp yamaha nitro or a race gas turbo pro I think you would be happy with the 2013.
Just my 2 pennies.

Very well said. These motors are bullet proof and will last forever. I wouldn't waste money on the extra warranty. I'd put that $1500 into a can and venting at a minimum. They are very fun machines if you are into big, reliable power.

first i want to say thanks , this is the info i'v been trying to find out , i have a 4 stroke now , i think the motor is the only way to go , no weekend spending money on oil to mix in with the 2 strokes , motors seem to last longer ,

for the new one being better then the 12's , i also agree from everything i could read or find out , i do believe alot comes down to the dealer that puts the sled togeather the first time

i have a roll over valve on my nytro now with kill switch and if i buy this new cat , will be one of the first pieces of kit i install ,

i have found a few used 2012 at a good deal , but again i think the new track on the 13 and the front end being in closer , plus the fact they should have most of it figured out , so used is not such a great deal when the price is so good on the 13's

can you tell me what should i have as add on's to protect the sled first , Rov, whats the bottom like on them cats , should i have them install a good under the belly plate

would like to do a few things that is good motor wise, add a little Hp without screwing up the warranty on it , the one dealer said to cut the pipe off , add a light battery and add a boondoc controller and it should get like 220 hp , i think he said a 1.9 or a 2 ,

of course this all adds up but i can do the installs myself

would it gain that much in your opinion

i think i'll start a little list and make sure whoever i buy from does a double check on the things befor i take it home

anything else i should look at
and again thanks guys , i'm starting to get excited as snow storm outside and i can see myself having a second sled

The first things I would add is a Skid plate, a real bumper and the ROV

The new track and narrow arms are definitely worth getting a 13'.

my thoughts are the same as they still want lots for a new 12 ,

i'd buy a used one with low milage but even used ones guys are asking allot , when the 13's are better and not a heck of allot more ,

i think they just want to sell and do what i'm about to do , grab a 13 in the all black limited :face-icon-small-hap

I absolutely loved my '12 once it was vented, had narrow arms and a different track. The new 2.6" track should help but its still a power claw. At least this year you can buy a CE 2.5" or 3" without having to pay to be cut down. These sleds are a blast at stock power levels and are gonna be even better at high boost. I'm gonna run evo 215hp in my sled and my bro is got a Superchute 290 in the works. Gonna have some great reviews once we get out. These cats have super potent and reliable engines and they should be just like the nytro guys in that basic maitenence is all that is required once your happy with your setup. I miss the weight of an 800 but once you climb everything with the skis in the air and the 800's claw over the top you'll be sold.
