Thinking of moving to alaska

What is the average pay rate for a semi truck driver and operator dozer, 980 loaders ect with experience summer and winter work if found.

I pay loader/dozer hands $32 to start, some are making $37+.

I think teamsters are getting close to $30.

I hired on as an operator/pipe welder-fuser with enstar natural gas in anchorage over the phone. I hit the road and was on the payroll two weeks later. I absolutley loved it, we worked long hours (or so I thought). many of the older hands encouraged me to find some work in the villages as at the time I was making 21 an hour in town and could nearly double that in the camps. the next season I hired on as a welder/operator (again over the phone) with a company working on the NPR out of Umiat. we worked as much as 120 hours a week. the checks were HUGE, but after 12-13 weeks without having more than 12 hours off in a row, I hopped a plane to town. camp jobs are killer for $$ and killers on relationships. like everyone else said there is a huge lack of skill state wide and skilled hands are treated pretty well.

I would be sure you work out a detailed plan of your schedule if you go for a camp job. my co told me we would work 3-4 on and 1 off, more like the only way out was to die or quit.

I moved my family to Alaska after coming up here on vacation and not returning home.

Seriously. I told the wife to sell everything and we started over. I got a job unloading trucks at wal-mart 3rd shift until I found some work.

Never looked back and have loved every minute of it. Alaska is definatly the land of oppertunity, like many have said- just do it and you wont regret it.

I have a friend who has a house for rent in Palmer. Let me know if your interested.

My girlfriends dad is always hiring, they do alot of work on the slope and Russia. He recently started a new company, due to some issues with CIRI and Nabors.

www.akfrontier.com is the site to see what they do if anyone is interested, the have both a union and non union side.

Ummmmmmmmmm

Depending upon where you intend to move in AK, if you haven't already moved here, you are missing out on all the work. In the Interior (Fairbanks) it is getting busy. Anchorage has been going since mid April. If you are an operator in local 302 you shouldn't have a problem getting the money. Sitting at home and searching the internet isn't going to get you a job. If you are here and available you should be getting a check. Just my .o2.

Definatly go to the oil patch, they'll hire from anywhere and things are hoppin. Even if you decide its not for you, you'll make some good conections for other work.

Couple ?'s ... I have a class A CDL with HAZMAT and Tanker along with about 700,000 miles behind me. Are there many line haul jobs or crude oil transport jobs to where a guy can get home at night??

Also, I have a Bachelor's of Science degree... can anyone tell me how difficult it is to get on with the Wildlife State Patrol?

Oh and one more, what could an RN expect to make??

I've been looking at MT but maybe AK is a better option??????

Thanks

1. Yes, but a guy prolly won't be home every night, and things slow down a little in the winter.

2. Shouldn't be too dificult, any exp. I belive our fish and feathers are also state troopers (some one please correct me if I'm wrong). Theres already enough peops patroling for wild life with large rifles...I think we have it covered...lol.

3. I have no idea.

any more questions?:face-icon-small-win

Looks like I might have a job up there :beer;

But, they have a project going down here that will let me work for em and save up enough money to make the move next spring :D:D

OK ya got us on the praire doggin, but we ride dirtbikes here. Speed goat huntin???? sounds like a lot of work...lol

nope ...not so fast..we do have parka squirrels..only problem is..ya gotta salvage edible meat or the hide...hmmm....and I bet his goat hunt is a draw tag...we also have sheep, bear..both back and browns...cariboo...crap even musk ox..lol

Speed goats is what we call Pronghorn Antelope. Not really anything special, if you are a resident you are almost guaranteed a tag. I'll hopefully have three of them this fall. Won't know the draw outcome for a few more weeks. The only hard part about hunting them is finding them when they aren't running. There's a sign on a highway in the central part of the state that says "Warning, Antelope entering highway at 65mph." :beer;
