Thinking of getting 09 F250 Diesel

Love it!

Oddly enough I would say the first assessment was spot on. I would only add a few things, and something I tell anyone who asks. GM takes great care of the passenger and smooth ride, Dodge has a great drivetrain and would last forever, Ford is right inbetween. Decent ride, built tough enough for almost all of us, and to echo the last statement, they must be doing something right, because they continuing to grow in these times and without ObamaBucks!

I rode in an 09 superduty the other day and man r they noisy in the cab compared to the dodge or chev. My neighbor rides in one to work eveyday and says he would never buy one they rattle and bang down bush rodes like there an old crummy. Now you buy one of the twin trubos and they dicontinue them in 2011, Ya ford sure has ther ducks in a row, The only reason they didnt need a buy out was because they secured funding before the crisis not because there doing better than everbody else. Go chevy Just kidding Thought id give some of the negatives that ive found about the new fords. Instead of all the blue oval lovers telling you the positives.

My 2 cents take it or leave it cheers:beer;

Both of my trucks are operated hard on 90% dirt roads they rarely see black top except a run to town. They are tight and rattle free. Do a little research on Fords relationship with Navistar and also the ongoing emission regulations and you will understand why the new in-house engine for 2011. Also the changes from the original 7.3 to the current 6.4 and why they happened, I doubt you will research it and I am not going to do the work for you. I already know the history.

Ford securing their own funding sounds to me like they did it better than the other two manufactures. Nobody but the Government would touch them, otherwise they could have secured their own funding as well. Take care...Jeff

ford securing ther own funding early was do to the fact that they were having problems before everybody else not because they were smarter. I found fighting with a ford owner is like beating your head against the wall it gets u nowhere i was just giving some negatives like i said he wants both sides not just positives so dont take offense. people love what ever they drive and he will probably love the truck but like u said there already in a fight with navistar over warranty on the 6.0 why would you want a truck that has a navi engine then. i'd wait till 2011 :face-icon-small-hap

No fighting here, just discussing what you said. The fact that Ford recognized they were in need of funding before having to beg the taxpayers and the fact that there was a private sector lender that saw them as an acceptable risk speaks volumes to me. Also separating themselves from Navistar who did not like paying the warranty claims seems smart to me also, build the engine in-house and take care of it yourself. It always take two to tango and Ford was at fault also with the Navistar situation.

Like I said above, the UREA injection sounds like a headache to me which might keep me from buying the new engine, have to see how it works in the real world. It is the EPA that are making all these trucks more complicated and trouble prone, not the manufacturers.

I did not take offense to your comments and yes it is good to hear negatives also. There are things about the Fords that I do not like and I also know their weaknesses. Please note I have not slammed the other trucks and in fact said all the manufacturers are building some amazing light duty trucks, I just happen to be partial to the Fords.

There has never been an issue of engines not being warrantied, just the payment for it between Ford and Navistar. I see no reason to fear buying a Navistar engine and worrying about it being warrantied. Personally I do not care for the 6.0 which is why I owned 7.3 and 6.4 liter engines. Take care...Jeff

Great trucks. My personal truck is a job 1, 2008 F-350 automatic, crew cab, long bed, 4X4, Lariat. Approaching 50k and had to replace an EGT sensor, been an excellent truck.

My work truck is a job 3, 2008 F-350 6-speed, crew cab, long bed, 4X4 , XL. Has about 26k and had to replace a VSS sensor. Both trucks are operated in a very harsh environment and are worked very hard, they just keep coming back for more. I can not say enough good things about them but I have owned Ford trucks my entire life.

Here are a couple of obligatory pictures and a link to a video of my work truck flat towing a loaded dump truck and trailer weighing around 40k up hill. Good luck with your purchase...Jeff

How big are those tires on the white one?

Durramax buddie cant beat the comfort, power, and nothing like the allison transmision. I have an 06 duramax and I pull around a 15,000 pound fifth wheel all the time long distance with ease and if you put a chip on it you can get around 22 mpg. I race my truck against fords and dodges with nhrda and the chevys dominate.

Very well put! Good Post.

No rubbing issues but the truck does have a small lift, however my work truck is stock height and I run 35's on it during the summer. I did have to trim a small part of the fender liner because they rubbed slightly at full lock. My stock rims handle the tire width just fine and I have not had any issues. The tires were bought in May and still look new with about 8000 miles on them, also they are run 80% on dirt roads and also some towing. Traction wise they are great in the mud and I am looking forward trying them in the snow. I chose the ATZ's because they have more siping than the MTZ's which is better traction on hard pack snow and ice.

Overall I am very happy with them so far and would recommend them. Take care...Jeff

All i have to say is evey brand has its problems,I have a 08 4-door 6.4 got it in may of 08 new it just turned 110,000 been a great truck always pulling a 27 ft beaver tail circle D trailer,it could get better fuel milage but with my bullydog chip runs around 17-20.Only problems I have had is a radiator and 4 injectors which could of been my fault as i had some dirt in my tank from fueling up out of my slip tank.Ford paid for everything no problems.Just go with what you like.Love the interior great leg room in the back seat also.

Banks makes one that works with the DPF, so does Spartan at the lower horsepower settings. The greatest gains in mileage and horsepower are accomplished by removing the DPF and Spartan seems to be the best. You just need to decide if voiding your warranty and violating federal emission laws are what you want to do. Take care...Jeff

Edit: The main advantage to removing the DPF is no more dilution of the engine oil with diesel because the regeneration process is stopped.

Go with the spartan tuner with their Dash Daq in the cab. Straight pipe it from the turbo back. and a cold air intake. This setup on the 6.4 is amazing. the dash daq lets you monitor anything you want to know about what the truck is doing, it is a touch screen and navigation is an option for it as well. The guys at spartan are great to deal with. and I sure like driving 800km before filling up. The down side.......If you don't keep your foot off the go pedal you may have to replace tires on a monthly basis.

What kind of milage are you getting if you don't mind me asking?

I am averaging 14mpg. However this is a welding truck with a 3600# welding skid in the back. I drive 70minutes one way to work around 115 - 120km/h. and I probably have 40 minutes of idle time every day at least. on long hauls I run it on the 275 tune and mileage is even better. no Idea what running empty would be like I would guess around 18-20 maybe. truck has a 4.10 rear end 3.73 might be better as well.
