Thinking about heading towards the Truckee area riding and have some questions.

We have a small group that is trying to figure out where to go for our annual riding trip.
I have been researching the Truckee area and think it may have some riding that could keep us entertained.
So my questions are plentiful and I appreciate any ones input or help on any or all of them.
Is there any amount of Extreme type riding in this area. (Steep, chutes, good climbing, etc..)
Is the riding area large enough to keep us entertained for two or three days?
What is required to ride in the Cali area if you are from out of state?
Places to stay. I would prefer to be able to bring my Motor home and stay where we can ride from it. All the while being close enough to walk to a bar or eatery. Is there anywhere that this is doable?
If we just bring a truck and trailer is there a better place to stay and ride in from, or somewhere to stay away from?
Locals......is there very many people that ride the area that would mind showing us their back yard? Promise not to tell!

Thanks again ahead of time for any information. It looks like there could be some great riding!

Jed.

Pm me if you dont want to give out any information to the general public.:face-icon-small-hap

Hi LSCC, LTS. You can park motorhome in parking lot and ride for every. I live here and ride here almost every day. Your 15 miles from Truckee. See my thread. I can show you some of the best places to go.

we dont like outta staters coming here! JK Jed!!

I think theres enough riding to keep you guys entertained for a few days around truckee/tahoe!!

Just say when!

Track Man, is there anywhere close to LTS to eat or drink?

Matt, is this your riding area? If so.....nevermind...:face-icon-small-hap j/k

We are looking at the last weekend of this month.

No, Truckee is it .15 miles. There is no were in Truckee to park, ride eat and drink.

Lots of extreme riding if you know where to go... Truckee area is where Team Summit does alot of their riding, so you might run into Oberti and the crew ;-)

I don't hit truckee area often, stick around the Lakes Basin, but there is great snow and great people. Have fun!

When are you planning on coming?
Ca, honors other states registrations so you need nothing other then a Snowpark permit
Reno is probably a good base camp for you as there are many areas to ride either West or South of here. If you want the steep you may want to hit Sonora pass from the eastside. Also there is some outstanding tree riding to be had in many areas. Little Truckee is popular, but I do have some others that are outstanding and have fewer crowds.
We RV to most areas so its a great way to travel around here, just bring your tire chains for your MH and trailer.
PM me if you want more Reno side info.

Thanks everyone for the input.

snowrdr, you mentioned chains for both the motorhome and trailer......is this a necessity or does the law dictate it? Thats alot of chains either way! lol.
Where do we obtain the snow park pass? Online?

I am unsure of the place that have been mentioned, Lake Basin, Sanora Pass, etc... Are they in the similar area? I have looked at a Cisco Campground by Soda Springs. Is this place close to the good stuff?

Anthony I sent you a pm.

It looks like the weekend of the 21-24th we should be heading out.

So the tire chains are California mandated that you A) have them B) use them when indicated and it is a very large fine if you do not do either of the above. Snowpark permits can be picked up in Reno or Truckee at most of the powersports dealers, but you only need one if you are going to stay at a snowpark. Would recommend doing a search for CA Snowparks and it will show you a map of all of them.
Would like to be around that weekend but I will be riding in the Rockies. Have a good trip

Is it mandated on all vehicles, or just larger recreation vehicles? Crazy stuff right there! I drive everyday on snow packed roads, never thought of buying chains for them......
Thanks again the help! I will check out that site.

Found the information on the chains. Drive axles and both tires on tandem axles must be chained. Also trailers with brakes must have chains on one axle.
Not as bad as I was thinking....
On the snow park site it done mention anything about LTS. Is this not a Snow Park?

As for chains. If chain control is on and you are pulling a trailer with trailer brakes, you need to chain one axle of the trailer, and rear axle of truck. If chain control is on and you have say a small 2 place open trailer, you only need to chain the rear axle of the truck.

We thought about just going to the Rubies but, couldnt find enough information on it...........so no we are going to drive on by. We may wave on our way through though......if that counts? :face-icon-small-ton

Anthony, thanks on the chain deal. We will be bringing a large enclosed so it looks like we will need a set for that trailer to. Good fun!

Check this out

sno-parks Permit is $5 day or $25 for season nov - may Some sno-parks can park up to 5 days without moving.

There are dozens of trailer parks in the area asnd cost around $25-100 a day.

If you are here for 2-3 days check out Sonora pass ... Lake Levitt for serious climbing

Is Sonora Pass accessible with a motor home and trailer? Say 70' long?

I don't think so BUT there are trailer parks less than an hour away from Sonora

Yes it is!!!! We have a MH and trailer and all you have to do is use a turn out at the very west end of the Marine base and back down the road about a half of a mile. We do it every year and its a great spot to RV camp and ride. Very worth your travel to ride there. Its a 2 lane highway that allows you to park on the South side and all you have to do is use the Marine base turn out to turn around and back er on down.
We have a 34 ft MH with a 22 ft trailer and do it every year!
