thinking about a 04 Summit 151 800

Just went and looked at it. It's all stock and in pretty nice shape. 1300 miles. The guy wants $4100 for it.

I dont know anything about Ski-doo (I have only ridden polaris). Any issues with this sled or anything that I should be concerned about? What do you guys think?

piston rings go out round 2500 miles they had a flaking problem in 04 and 05. also round that time if you replace the pistons you might as well get the crank bearings greased again because some are not oiled and need to be repacked or they go out. seen this happen on 4 of them myself including my own. other than that i love my 04 800.

Thanks. Any "much do's" as far as aftermarket stuff if I were to pick it up?

The 04 REV is a great sled. Yes...a lot of them did have the flaking ring problem. You can pick up of set of Cudney Racing pistons for a reasonable price and it takes about 3 hours to install them.

$4100.00 is a GREAT price for that sled IMO! I just sold an 04 on Friday for $7000.00

thats a great deal with only 1300 miles. yes like previously stated they had flaking ring problems. pretty easy fix. there are many cheap mods

Also add SPL Hot Air Eliminators, SLP can (save 8#), stock skis are junk--add Simmons skis--and I just installed running board Snow Eliminators--an absolute must. Good luck, great buy:beer;

Oh, remove the sway bar:mad:

Frustrating 04 issue

Unless that sled has something seriously wrong with it...that is a great price.
Had the same sled with a 144 track...and loved it...never a problem.
Put 3300 trouble free mountain miles on it. Added powder pro skiis, SLP ceramic pipe/can and fox shox

NOW THE BAD NEWS

Sold it to a friend two years ago and the MPEM went on it two rides later. Felt bad and covered the cost on a new one.. problem solved....for about $500.00
Next ride the problem was not actually solved...and the sled was nearly impossible to start when the engine was hot. Back to the shop for a new STATOR...this time.

Stator fixed...but the actual problem was not..It seems to flood out easy and take about 100 pulls to start ...but only when we were an hour deep in the mountains. Back to the shop..changed up the needles and seats, then re-built the carb.... more $$$
Had a top end done....and complete service...for lots of $$$$$$
Problem still exists
Same friend rode with me today...and unfortunately the sled will be back to a shop tomorrow

It starts fine cold...runs amazing all day and great power when you pin it..Once it is up to temperature it still pulls strong with no hesitation throughout...then... is a total POS to start and will not idle or stay running at low rpms. When running it is awesome...but at an idle it dies...and then is impossible to start

Compression is great...plugs always look good and three shops have no answer two seasons later

Problem is still not solved..

This really has no bearing on the 04's overall...It's just a migraine problem of this particular sled yet.

revneck--check out the clutch sliding half on the primary. Mine started to do the same hard start thing and I found that the bushing was bad and caused the clutch to jam on the shaft in low gear. Could not get enough spin on the starter rope to pull the engine over. It turns out that the spring cap on the REVs wears out the bushing and in turn does the same to the sliding half.

Thanks alot for all the advise. The sled looks in great shape and I dont think the guy is much of a mountain rider. 1300 miles in four years is only about 325 a year...he said he was selling due to lack of interest. Said his kids quit riding and he has no one to ride with. No scratchs or broken plastic. He said it had never been rolled. Did they only come with the 16" wide track? Looked like a 2" lug...

Thanks for the help/advise again!

Stock track is. 16". Just make sure the front shocks are centered between the A arms and are the same on both sides. If they are NOT then the NUN is probably bent.

rings

rk tek has a cheap fix for the flaking rings, also other mods if you want to do more. dj's clutch kit is good bang for buck, too. Marcuso has a nice solution for the bent running boards and gives you a bit of a custom look.
