Things I learned driving a D-Max 1,200 miles

Got home last night after 8 days of Ridding in Canada. Towed my trailer with friends D-Max. First off, Nice truck. I never drove one or even rode in one till I hooked up on 1/30/09 to leave. Its an 06 4 door short bed and towed well, Not the power I am use to but not bad. The thing is he bought the Banks 6 gun but does not have it on yet:mad: so Me and my other bud busted his azz all the way there telling him what a pig it is:D.

The thing i HATED the most is the LITTLE fule tank!!! WTF was Chevy thinking putting a pissy little 24 gal tank in there:mad: He heard about that too every time we had to stop for Fule:D We told him we want a 200gal transfure tank for the next trip:D

Also on the way home the Engine light came on, It still ran fine so we kept rolling.

Bottom line I told him we can take it again:D

.

I have a buddy with a 06 Dirtymax with EFI live and it has been out west twice, once with efi live hooked up and now this year with it hooked up. BOTH trips the engine light came on on our way home??? Didnt really mean anything, like you said it still ran fine just had to look at the light the rest of the way home.

I got back from a 2400 mile trip with my Dmax. Before I left, I put in a 52 gal Titan tank in place of the previous 26 gal tank. Boy, do I love the larger tank.

My buddys got an 07 with a 6" lift on it and 37's. Still rides way better than any Dodge or Ford out there...........They are very comfy trucks.....

Got a ton of miles on GM's....

some electrical issues like(cant turn my headlight off..lol) dont keep your wallet in your back pocket other than LOVE IT

03 CC DUALLY GMC something like 70-80k on Banks over 110-120K total

Yep... love the DMAX but couldn't stand the small 26 gallon tank. I too went with a Titan tank but mine is the second generation that holds 60 gallons. A little tough on the pocket book when diesel was 4.50 a gallon but so worth it on long trips. The newer generation tanks look much nicer but only hold 52 gallons.
My dad just bought a new DMAX and had a 70 gallon slip tank built very cheaply with a small pump that fills through the vent tube under the bed. A small spring loaded switch controls it from the cab so you don't leave it on and over fill. I'm going to borrow it the next time I head to Revy... should be able to do the whole trip with the fuel I carry.

our last trip out west (average mileage and fuel prices)-
1000 miles/7 mpg with a 6.0 chevy * 1.79 gas= $255.71
1000 miles/9.5 mpg with 09 duramax and quadzilla chip * 2.59= $272.63
does the $6000 option for the duramax really pay? Granted, I love the diesel power, but its just not worth it with all the emissions crap on them, they dont get the mileage they used to

What happens when the gas motor wears out at 120,000 150,000 miles and needs to be replaced is the $6000 worth it then. This may only be true if you are using the truck to tow all the time.
