Thin Air ???

I heard rumor that thin air is going out of business.Anyone hear anything regarding this.Bad winter and more overhead?

I am sure they are hit hard like every small business with this slowly recovering economy. With the lack of snow this winter it was probably even worse on them. If people are not riding and hitting stuff they don't need their sleds fixed or in need of buying parts.

If it is true its pretty sad indeed. They had a pretty nice shop.

I hope not, but wouldn't doubt it. I took the wifes sled up there at the first of Dec. and customers everywhere. Went back sometime in the middle of Janurary and not a soul around. It was like a ghost town. Both on Sat.
It would be sad indeed.

We should probably wait for Snow Trooper to chime in....but from the sounds of it, the rumors may be true. (We'll likely hear something from them within the week) Let's hope that they can stay open to some capicty. Jay and the rest of the crew there are great guys. :face-icon-small-sad

I hope this is false, they are a great shop and the ONLY polaris dealer worth a crap in the Reno/Tahoe area.
My buddy bought 2 sleds from Thin Air this winter, and even though I have my sleds built in UT, Thin Air has bent over backwards to help me with any parts/warranty/service.

It's True

I stopped by today and there was a sign on the door stating they where closed & restructuring, taking inventory and my be open next week.
Sad deal, it was a nice store and friendly people.
I hope they can restructure, but without ATV's & UTV's I think it would be hard to stay in business in this area.

It's true. All happened over the last week. New huge shop, more people, more inventory, no snow and much fewer customers. All thin air needed was a normal winter and it was setup to do great things after last season and the expansion. It got no winter and folded.

Anyone want to hire a tech/salesman... Lol.

This news is horrible for our community and especially all the people who work at Thin Air. I have been buying parts off of Jay at Thin Air since 1990. My first purchase was a comet clutch for a Jag 340. Boy I thought that sled was the sh*t!.
Recently (since my son was 3, now 7), I have been bringing my son in every chance we get. Bones has always found stickers somewhere in the shop to give to him. Everything he owns has Thin Air stickers on it. My family and I were always treated like GOLD when we walked in to Thin Air. Quite frankly...I'm not sure where my wife is going to shop for Christmans and my birthday!
I am so sad to say that alll I will have is memories of Thin Air....BUT...Thin Air and everybody who worked there, Thank you for help creating those great memories for me and my family.

Jason

Sorry to hear.... this has been a crippling economy at all levels..... disposable income is harder and harder to part with. Best of luck with your re-structuring

Oh man, sorry to everyone at Thin Air-you guys were exceptional. They treated me great and I was looking forward to doing more business with them. This winter just got even worse with this news.....

Who you guys gonna use now for warranty work. As of yesterday I'm in need of some help.

Well thanks for all the good times Jay and Jim(Bones). You guys got me started in the mod world with my first sled 92 arctic cat Wildcat. Ugly *** purple skis and a 1 1/2" lug 136 track. I remember the first time I totaled my sled, Jay told me how to tweak it so it would work again. Great shop and the atmosphere was more like dealing with good friends/family.

I talked to Dave the service manager at Micheals the other day and was told one of thin airs service techs was going to start work next month.Heard he rides and is very familiar with skidoo.Always good to have a tech that rides working for you.

Can only think of SSM in sparks.

FAIL

Sacramento has Adrenaline and they get good reviews. Just not sure if they know the mod scene or not.

I heard Thin Air is likely going to open back up after restructuring. Alot of guys pulling for them. They did the right thing by expanding their business (huge snowfall last year, selling a great product) and there is no doubt they would have made it this year hadn't it been for abscense of snow.

Angel investor to Thin Air

If I had the kind of money Mitt Romney or any rich guy had sitting around in the bank, I would become an angel investor to Thin Air and pump a million bucks into their bank account to keep them going. Then I could request a desk in their showroom to sit at in my spare time and talk about snowmobiles and other fun motorized toys with anyone that walks in and wanted to shoot the bull. :face-icon-small-hap
My investment would also give me demo ride privileges to ride any sled when I wanted to. What a dream job.

does this make my thin air apparel instant collectors items?

Been a few years since I darkened their doors..but Jay and Thor are some pretty cool cats. Hope everything works out the best for them.
