Everyone has heard of high unemployment but have you ever heard of a husband and wife getting laid off on the same day within 15 minutes of each other? Well....it happened to my wife and I both about a month ago. My wife had been at a large Worldwide shipping company 2 months shy of 22 years. I had been at a local company since 2004.
She trained her boss because he had the Bachelor's Degree. The degree was the only thing that would not allow her to get this promotion. This was her first job out of high shcool, first application and first interview. The thing I feel bad for her is she put over half of her life into this company. She even trained her boss (who is gay btw).
This guy had a mental breakdown after being on the job only 9 months. So after he was off recovering for 6 months and taking anti-depressants, he was back for only a month before being off for another 6 months recovering from throat surgery, (I can only guess why he needed that) He came back last December completely a different person according to my wife. I attribute it to the medication. BTW, she had to fill in for him both times. And perform her job as well.
This is a guy who sends my wife to Tennessee 2 days before last Christmas to lay off 15 people becuase he didn't think he was ready to fly in an airplane at the time.
My case is a little interesting...I have been denied unemployment benefits because my employer was NOT been paying into unemployment for me. WTF?? I'm not an excutive, officer, president or anything like that. I can and will appeal this decision however, if I do win, my attorney will take 40% of the measily $500 or so a week. The company said they weren't able to pay the state. I've also found out they are 2.1 million backwards in 941 payroll taxes. Nice.
So as an employee of a company, how are you supposed to know if your employer is not paying into unemployment?
I'm not looking for sympathy here just letting people know what happens in supposedly the greatest country and how it pisses me off to see these idiots in Washington acting like 5 year old school girls. Both sides should be asshamed of themselves.
