The helmet cam thread.

Seeing as just about everyone posts helmet cam videos this year and no photos I think we need a thread about them.

What cam do you have?

What kind of creative mounts have you used or want to try?

What do you use to edit your videos?

Youtube? Vimeo? Photobucket?

What kind of music do you like in the videos you create?

Contour and Contour HD
I like the size of the Contour mainly because I ride the moto bike in the desert and I feel like the Go Pro would get killed in the trees unless on my chest. I like many features of the Go Pro but the Contour has worked well for me

Helmet/Goggle/Handlebar and did a small boom above my head. I really like using the goggle as it is so simple and movable once you figure out you need to aim 15% high.

Use the stuff that comes from the cam makers. Did a desert segment with Pinnacle studio but really I don't do much editing

Mainly post to Youtube. Tried the contour site twice for mtn bike vids

I have kept the music out as I really don't want to hear people comment as most of the time music is so personal. I like a lot of what people have used but I like to hear the sweet sound of Impulse 3071 music most

I have the CountourHD 1080P.

So far I have just used the goggle strap mount, the other ones that came with the camera weren't real great, this seems to be the most reliable and gives a good forward POV of what you are seeing when riding. I want to do some of the POVs you guys have been using though. Bossrev enlightened me about the mount to really get creative.

I currently use Final Cut Pro to edit videos, mainly because I have it. I really don't like it, it is so in depth that it really makes it a pain to do quick little videos. I am going to downgrade to Final Cut Express this week and see how that works.

I'm a fan of Vimeo, mainly because it isn't so main stream. I don't think I've uploaded a video to youtube. I probably should start as most forums and such seem to be partnered with youtube so you can embed videos.

And Finally a few videos!

Last year when I piled in the M8. 175 miles on her.

I have the GoPro 1080 hd camera.

I just have the mounts that came with it. I am planning on getting some more to make a few cool angles.

I have a Mac computer and there was Imovie on it so that is just what i am going to use to make videos. It seems pretty easy

After using iMovie, Final Cut Express 4 and Final Cut Pro...

Final Cut Pro has tons of stuff, it comes in about a 10 pound box, full of books and 6 dual layer dvds. Takes about around 100 GB on my computer. Way to much program for the backyard movie editor.

Final Cut Express is like iMovie on steroids. We got Final Cut Pro because FCE didn't do one thing. Needless to say it was not worth it. It took me 3 hours to do a clip in slow motion the way I wanted it that FCE would not do. However it is far more involved than iMovie.

I'm going to see how FCE goes again, and then possibly even downgrade back to iMovie for awhile.

I have the Contour HD and 1080p. I just have downloaded the trial version of a movie editor called Loilo. Googl search it and it comes right up. It is super easy and user friendly. It is $88 so I think i will buy it at the end of my trial period. Only thing i dont like is the slow motion. You can slow a clip down to watch it in slow motion but I still havent figured out how to make it work right in the timeline. when i try to do it, the entire video goes slowmo instead of just the clip. Still working out that problem but other then that I have loved that program. I dont have to render any clips before I start working on the video which is a big plus. I would recommend downloading it if you are looking for a simple easy editor and try it out.

I have the Contour HD GPS. Also got the standard 1/4-20 mount for it.
I had a Go Pro but my Bro liked it so much he kept it.:face-icon-small-ton
(Search summitgdc on youtube for his page)
I have uploaded only to youtube, I have some flicker and photobucket accounts, but they're just more work.

I think the Contour is much more glove friendly and I like the mount capabilities better. Plus no "Go Pro Face":face-icon-small-sho

As for the GPS: loading to contour's site only lets everyone know where your stashes are, and we have discussed this already.:face-icon-small-coo

Am currently working on more mounts and some more creative shots.
I have used Windows Moviemaker(ok) and have a trial version of AVS Editor. The AVS is bada$$, but I havent paid for it yet. I will probably do that this next week.

It is a bear to take 15 or 20 minutes of good footage and crop it down to 3-4 minutes and then make it work with the song. 2-3+ hours per vid clip is what I have been spending so far.

I hear ya TS on the personality of picking music, but listening to a 2 stroke blare thru the woods for that long gets old. I have to say I love the sound of a boosted 4 stroke. We need to hook up and ride AF sometime soon.

The 720P "tall" resolution. You can see alot more of the sled that way which gives it alot more perspectve. I think when you can't see the sled it kind of makes you sick watching the videos sometime.

We have two 1080's and a 720 ContourHD. This week has been interesting. Terrible luck with our cards not working. :tsk:

Using the ContourHD 720p at 60 frames per second...this is good for slow mo editing...I've demo'ed basically all of the editing softwares...PowerDirector is good for basic stuff...VideoPad works well on my laptop.

Well, my contour HD 1080 should be here on Monday. I broke down and ordered one with a few extra accessories. I will chalk it up to marketing for my website. I hope to test the bad boy out in the trees on Tuesday. I'm guessing that will be the only place there is any powder left for losers like me who have had to work the last couple weeks. Keep the suggestions and ideas flowing.
