The "fix" fixed what????????

Nikasil is the plating that is electrofused to the bore. It should never come off, if it does get it fixed cause something wrong. Teflon is what you find on some pistons. It's mostly used as an aid in the break in process and will ware off. Hope this help with the confusion here.

the nicasil is supposed to come off. it is there for break in.

That statement is entirely BS! Nicasil is what took place of the old cast iron sleeves, it is sized and finished with a diamond hone. The use of nickasil allows the piston to bore tolerances to be tighter which allows more heat to transfer out of the piston and be carried away. It also decreases cylinder wear and friction as the Nicasil is nearly as hard as the diamond hone and wears very little. Thus the resulting cylinder is lighter and more efficient both thermodynamicaly and pounds per HP.

To have it flake off can only be attributed to improper cylinder prep prior to the plating process! It in no way should ever come off, except to replate the cylinder!

The nicasil coating is on the cylinder walls. it is there for break in. the coating on the pistons is silicone it will wear off after time. gm has been using silicone on their pistons since the 90's when they started using pistons with a short skirt piston. helps with the rattle and helps keep aluminum from flaking off. snowmobilers are just now noticing this. i have replaced hundreds of pistons over the years in gm vehicles

Thats a big negative there ghost rider.
