The Blues 2014-2015

I have to agree with Glenn. Between harvest and fires these meetings are tough to make this time of year. Big rep for Mike for representing us tonight. I had planned on coming but a broken fire truck had my name all over it.

Re Meeting

The meeting was well attended by county commissioners, a representative for Rep. McMorris-Rogers, hunting groups, hikers, Audubon Society, ranchers, ATV folks.... and EVERYONE agreed the forest plan should include banning people that ride Arctic Cat snowmobiles!:face-icon-small-sho

Seriously over 60 people were there... it was a "listening meeting" as there were many of the Umatilla FS leadership there.

Many people (including me) wanted increased enforcement of people that tear stuff up; a lot of concerns over weed seeds; a lot of discussion on no more closing roads; I talked about minimal snow and people need to stay on trails (response to tree and fence damage) I also suggested minimal snow level before grooming. State wildlife wants more closed areas so elk will move to the forest off farm ground...farmers called that plan BS as elk have always been on their land (easier food and living). Also wilderness hunters reported there are very little elk and deer in wilderness. Need for increased fuel load removal (logging and grazing)

I also talked about being able (when there is enough snow) to snowmobile anywhere, sleds/bikes with loud pipes should get ticketed, again drinking/driving needs to be arrested, need to have access for the disabled, no more wilderness or areas designated as "silent areas". Anyway the FS is going to re-write the plan... I have asked for a link to the new draft plan... they said it will be a while.... will share

Ride Report 8/15/15 Dayton Side

Out riding the Kendall-Skyline Road with the plan to ride over to Oregon, down to Troy, OR and then back home... well that was the plan.

The FS has closed the whole area (TeePee, Godman and South) when I was there today they were evacuating anyone they found in the area... if the wind comes up it could get really ugly!

Looks like you didn't make it to Godman. I know of a family going to try to go to their cabin towards Teepee to get out some of their more valuable belongings on Sunday. I was in Montana over the weekend enjoying the smoke over there as well as along the whole route. We could sure use some rain. They are reporting that fire complex in the Wilderness at being over 2,100 acres at this time.

http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4511/ for the report.

The time has finally come to retire the faithful M to the wife's ride. On Friday I picked up my new 2016 M8000 limited 162 in Cottonwood.

Nice.
Make sure to put the ice scratchers down when ur on the trail.
I never needed to use the ice scratchers on my 09, just drug a foot every once and a while, that does not work with the 14 and newer cats!
Get ready to fall over a few times learning the new ride. U will definitely enjoy the trail ride over the old M.
Boots will last longer now, no more kicking the boards trying to get traction.
Ur cheeks will be sore from all of the smiling.

Use the scratchers all the time on the M with the 2.6. Heat kills tracks and motors.

I hope It lives up to my expectations. The old M flat out rocks.

Let me know if you go out to do a few brake in rides Rob. I'll need a few rode rides to work on clutching.

Will do Tony. I will be looking for the first ridable snow storms to put some miles on.

Nice sled Rob but you might want to rethink about which one you let the wife ride. She should get the nice new one to enjoy. You will have to come ride to Tollgate with us to help break it in like you did with your M sled a few years ago.

Now all you need to do is a good snow dance so we can ride on snow and not stumps this winter. Also think about coming to Walla Walla President's weekend as the WSSA Rendezvous will be there this year. Enjoy!

Glenn if you have snow I would love to make the tollgate ride. As for the WSSA I will try to make that too if we aren't in McCall. The wife can ride what ever she wants.

So i took a gamble today and went up out of dayton to try and get some seat time on the turbo and work on clutching and fueling before I head north next week to ride. The snow park there was about 4 inches of snow, and 16 ish inches of ice at the top of blue wood with 3 ish inches of fresh on top. Should be a decent base when it snows and enough for a road ride if anyone wanted to get out.

We went to Freezeout today. The Snow as almost an identical story maybe a smidge more on top.
The new cat need some clutch work and I need some more saddle time.

This is not an upgraded M. It rides nothing like an M. Everyone says it takes a couple hundred miles to learn to ride them. I hope this is the case. I was missing the pumpkin today.

The first 100 miles or so i was second guessing my choice on the proclimb too. After 400 miles on the proclimb i took the ol 09 M8 out for a ride, boy did i miss that proclimb lol

Were there many trees down Tony after all the wind? A few people were going up today to check it out as they had it all done last Sunday.

The plan Rob is to ride to Tollgate on the 5th and Tollgate will ride to Godman on the 12th conditions permitting.

There were only two that I came across. 3 or 4 fire wood cutters up there yesterday so they may have took care of some of them.
