small of the back holster when you can wear a jacket or inside the pants holster and untucked shirt. most guns are too big and bulk for effective concealed carry. look at some of the subcompact guns such as glock 26 or 27 or some of the older colt 380's I have carried both and you cant tell there there. also don't get hung up on caliber most attackers aren't stopped with a single shot you need to overload the nervous system and shut it down, this requires multiple shots from any caliber besides who is going to shoot once always 2 center mass and one to the head. always move why shooting and be proficient at it. anyone who truly wants to save there life should take a more in depth course in self defence and tactical shooting

a few reasons why I have the conceal weapons permit is:

1.) dont have to wait for background check on purchase of a handgun.
2.) dont have to worry about being in violation of conceal carry laws when bringing it to and from the range and packing it along on camping/hiking trips.
3.) i like the fact that you have to take at least a basic level introductory course on the operations and use of the firearm.

If you can find an absolute top notch instructor I would suggust taking more than the intro course. For many reasons, I am impressed with a guy here in the Bitterroot Valley named Mark Kowak. He teaches regular courses at both the intro level and beyond.

In Montana it's only concealed if it's on your person. You can have it anywhere you want in the truck. And when you're out in the woods, concealed carry does not apply. Only in town.

dude, I still read the newspaper in C.O...how 'bout those gunshots downtown the other night? 7 months ago that could have been me down there at the bar getting wild. :beer;:p

ya,this area has grown fast.its about time for me to find a smaller town..again:beer;but i do like the 15 mins to snowpark and you can still not worry about being robbed in the middle of the day:)

concealed holder here, admitted gun nut and holder of a few classes. I can offer this, if you are interested in home defense.... a 12ga pump gun is the answer. there is not a person aive who does not know th sound of the gun being stroked. nobody in their riht mind would walk into that.

and beyond that:

1. If the sound of the shotgun being pumped doesn't deter them, you will have a better chance of hitting your target with the shotgun. I'm good with a pistol, but in a high adrenaline environment, trying to hit a moving target, at night, after just waking up...no friggin' way. I'd challenge that anyone on here who hasn't been to GunSite or the equivalent is the same way.

2. Load it with high-base 7's or 8's. At the ranges you'll be shooting someone, it will stop if not kill them, BUT, it won't kill your kids in the next room. You'll be shooting under 10 yards...think of the shot pattern of 8's at 10 yards...more than enough.

3. Pull the plug. :D

In the new world order ..the last thing that you want to do is get a permit.....

so why ?? so they them know who what and where you are ??

doesn't sound like a very logical place to start now does it .....probably reason number 666 why I don't devuldge this type of information ....ever

Great theory, but what I gain from the permit is far beyond what I gave up to get it. They already know about my pistol (bought it legally, it's "registered"), so having the permit tells them nothing more. Like was already stated, no more waiting, can carry just about anywhere w/o worry of getting charges brought against me, and have that piece of mind that if I do have to use it, at least I won't be getting charged with unlawful concealment or whatever they'd come up with. :face-icon-small-dis

LOL you know the name of the Guy that will sign off on your Permit in FL??

Charles Bronson................ No lie

The FL Permit is a good one to have, it covers over 20 states, You can get on by mail from any state to. .... How do I know this:cool:

And anyone that's been around shotguns more than a few minutes can tell when the gun is just being pumped, and when its being pumped and actually chambering a shell. You can hear the extra little 'whoomp' of the shell popping out of the magazine. Granted your everyday thug off of the street probably won't know the difference, but you don't know before hand who will be breaking into your house. If you have to pump your shotgun when someone is coming into your bedroom at night, you're already half a second or more behind in a game where that extra half second can easily cost you your life.

If you want a shotgun for home defense, great. But keep the thing loaded or you may as well keep a baseball bat next to the bed instead.

Better do some more research sounds like your kids life might depend on it. a missed shot will easily penetrate 1/2 inch sheetrock at the close distances. also the comment about shooting in the dark your target better be illuminated before a round is sent down range in home defence.

Birdshot, because of its small size, does not have the mass and sectional density to penetrate deeply enough to
reliably reach and damage critical blood distribution organs. Although birdshot can destroy a great volume of
tissue at close range, the permanent crush cavity is usually less than 6 inches deep, and this is not deep enough
to reliably include the heart or great blood vessels of the abdomen. A gruesome, shallow wound in the torso does
not guarantee a quick stop, especially if the bad guy is chemically intoxicated or psychotic. If the tissue crushed
by the pellets does not include a vital cardiovascular structure there's no reason for it to be an effective wound.

Completely agree!! at (10 yards = 30 feet) that is the next room unless you live in a castle!! You will do nothing but irritate an intruder that is full of meth with bird shot.....

Do they work in Canada? You could just shoot the caribou instead of harassing them!! :D:D

i would rather shoot someone and go to trial then be dead. have you ever seen the movie Felon? if not watch it. i would rather protect my family and go to jail then to have your family killed and know you could have done somthing about it if you had a gun.

All very good points ^^^^^ One other is if you do have to use it shoot to kill..... there is less arguing about the details that way....... Take some training if you are not used to carrying.....

Good luck!

While this is correct, if someone from the legal community were to ask your response should be along the lines of, "I aimed center mass and neutralized the immediate threat." It's a way of saying "I shot to kill" without giving the prosecution your words to make you look like a killer as you try to defend yourself after defending yourself.

It was recommended and I agree with one firearms training instructor I had that if you carry a concealed weapon you should carry 24-hour a day prepaid legal. If you ever are in the situation you need to use your firearm you will need an attorney ASAP....and the bad guys don't just strike during business hours.
