I Was out riding last weekend in Togwotee on my 2012 assault when had a little mishap on a small "jump". Anyways.. I bent up the tunnel where the skid mounts up on the left and right side from the impact. It's not all that bad, could ride it out. Took it to my dealer to see if warranty would cover it cause it wasn't that big of a hit and had no business bending the tunnel like it did. Long story short I got denied warranty and the tunnel is backordered till the end of January. Last I check the assault was made for jumping and whatnot. Am I wrong for being upset about this?

No warranty makes sense, if they covered misuse they would be out of business. I guess it would be hard for Polaris to say it was a minor incident and there product did not stand up or was it a major impact and ur just wanting them to foot the bill

So buying a sled that's advertised for jumping and dropping cliffs and bending a tunnel on a small jump no more then 12 feet is misuse?

Could definatly depend on the landing...when jumping I am sure they figure you should land on the bottom of the track....not the end of the tunnel possibly?? Do not know the whole story...

I ride with a kid that has a 2011 Assault, and he hucks that thing. 150+, huge cliff drops and what not, he's had it share of get offs, and the thing has not had an issue. Still looks great. The only thing he's had happen is breaking the running boards where a lot of people have.

ive launched mine just over a hundred feet last year, dropped a 40 ft cornice, along with other various hits, hips jumps and drops.. ive wreck and rolled good, bent my running boards and have never seen anything with the tunnel.. and thats on a standard rmk.. if it bent its pry from somethin worse, it would be nice if they would though

any pics

Corvette's are made to go over 140 mph but if you run into a light pole Chevy won't do jack for you.

Seriously, I feel for you as I would be bummed to. But look at it from the Polaris side. A guy shows up with a wadded up tunnel and wants it warrantied. What would you do?

i feel for ya. always tuff when its gotta come out of your own pocket. I would say if your gonna jump stuff be prepared to pay for the damage. sucks when things go bad but if you take the risk you gotta be prepared to pay for it. yes they do advertise the assault for air but doesn't say go big and if it breaks we'll pay for it. never have seen one person on this forum say i bent my tunnel or broke this because i went big!!! or i totally wasted it on the landing. its always well i may have bumped something but it wasn't that hard:) i own an auto repair shop and have had peeps come in that have ran thier car soooooo hot it breaks the block or run a bad bearing until it siezes let and cool until it will start again and get it so hot it will actually turn the oil in the pan to grease and they say it got a little hot but not that bad... never once has anyone ever come in and said man that thing was smoking hot...

So Polaris wont fix it..that means you need to...hang it by the rear bumper, pull the skid out, drag the track under the bulkhead and out to the nose so its not in your way.. then undo the damage that was done...apply force exactly the opposite way that the impact did the damage, work slow and carefull over the whole damage area and work it back to straight..once its straight, build some reinforcments and install them..look the whole sled over real close so you dont miss any hidden damage...

Excellent point.
Maybe you should check with your insurance Co?.:fish2:

Can't blame polaris on this issue. You wrote that you had a mishap jumping, they are made for jumping, not mishaps!

Call Mike at VanAmburg Enterprises and get a aftermarket tunnel stronger than stock. Turn in to insurance.
I sure wouldn't bad mouth Polaris for not covering it. Maybe if you had a video of the incident and it truly "wasn't that bad of a hit". Otherwise SOL

Exactly, heres what I did, and honestly, the people I've ridden with so far that didn't know it was wrecked, couldn't tell. It does nothing to hinder performance, exchangers are still good, and I just put on a Skinz rear bumper to help add strength to the bent part. Waaay cheaper than buying a new tunnel.

Then this is how I got it straight

sell your pro and buy a real sled IQR thats made for that crap not a sled made out of aluminum foil. Iam all about being a hater on dealers as ive had my fair share of problems the pro's are known for that kind of crap iam not a jumper but seems like if you are a huge jumper that there isnt a better choice then the iqr just a brutally built sled made for that style of rideing.

IQr tunnels still bend with mishaps... trust me. But yes they are a damn strong sled. I don't know who expects a thin piece of aluminum that long to be durable. That's why the pro only has a 15lb capacity rating on the tunnel. I'd be curious to see what exactly the "mishap" was. I've had several and wouldn't expect a warranty to cover mine, insurance yes.

Tgitt, nice job , very good repair for someone not expeirenced in wreck repair, you need to reinforce the tunnel or its going to fold again though...for any that do buckle a tunnel and dont feel they can do a good job repairing it..go hit all the local autobody shops..your looking for the oldest bodyshop guy you can find...for back in the old days you didnt just replace damage, or bondo over it..in the old days they hammered and dollied stuff till it was perfectly straight..ask them to straighten your damage(most might charge you 50-100 bucks for t gitts repair) and it will be straight...
