Tether Petition

I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty thankful that our sport has people that have good vision for what is needed and work their tails off to make it happen.

Thanks again to all these peeps for all your efforts to grow the sport we love and hopefully ensure its future so my kids get the chance to love snowmobiling and the backcountry as much as I do!

I have a tether on my sled and reccomend one.

However I'm not on board MANDATING that a company does something that some have the opinion should be mandatory.

The last thing any person or company needs in this world is more regulations. Regualtions just dumb down people over time and cause more harm than good. It's all about personal responsibility and individual decision making.

We all know what happens next after all snowmobiles have to have tethers..... a couple years later something else is required and then another and another and so on.

If you want people to wear tethers (as I do) then educate them to make their own decision, don't force them.

Once again, missed the point completely. And thanks for the thumbs down.

If it was about strong arming the manufacturers then the direction would be a regulatory one. Such as going after the politicians etc. And yes, that would be a mistake.

The direction that is suggested here is to provide the manufacturers with the voice of the sledding community, specifically the MOUNTAIN sledding community, and make a suggestion.

They still have the CHOICE whether or not they do the right thing.

And you as a rider still have the CHOICE to wear it or not.

Nobody is being forced to do anything.

It really is a win-win if it happens.

I simply believe in the CHOICE that the rider should have to wear it or not. Let each person decide if they want to wear it or not.

Installed tethers on all the sleds before start of this season .... figured that the more I start to push my abilities the more likely it is that at some point an accident can and will happen in which case hopefully a tether will help reduce the risk of serious injury ....
I would prefer the tether factory installed but for $15 and 1/2 hour effort the Seadog clip tether is an easy solution (new style is set up for both normally open and normally closed circuits).

Personally I would rather an OEM tether rather than BNG / stickers ... not sure if regulating is easy to go though (too many bureaucrats creating / pushing ill conceived regulations already).

Thank you so much to everyone for sharing stories, and thoughts. If anyone has pictures they'd like to share, any specifics you'd like me to include in my articles, please email me

I'm about to let one story fly, but have a few more to write.

Again, we aren't talking about making the use of tethers mandatory, we're asking manufacturers to follow BRPs lead and supply them from factory. The choice is ours if we want to use them or not.

Again, so much thanks!

Like a seatbelt in a car....it should have one from the factory.

Does that mean you have to wear it 100% of the time in every situation? No. But the more sleds they are on, the more people will wear them just by the math. And that's a good thing.

I agree with people....they are annoying and I'd rather not wear one in a perfect world. Forcing myself to get used to it this year because it would be a really stupid way to potentially get very hurt or very busted-sled-ish.

Late in, but better than never.
I had a machine jump off the trailer and end up in the lake when the throttle stuck open on startup. After that I installed a tether and will never start/ride without one. Just to risky, especially on fuel injected machines that will still run upside down.
I have already saved my machine from 2 tree crashes because it stopped when I fell off.
