Tether Petition

Hi guys,
I'm writing an article for SnoRiders Mag about tethers.. holy freakin grizzly details of death, ripped limbs, near carbon monoxide poisoning.
I wear a tether, and believe they are an important safety feature that can prevent so much harm.
BRP gets it... tethers are on their machines right from the factory. It would be awesome if they all were on board. I would LOVE to present this petition at their dealer meetings, asking for tethers to be installed right from the factory.
It would give more peeps accessibility so more would use them. For the peeps who don't like where the factory tethers are located, they may choose another alternative like a teth-air or Pingle, but for the majority of the population, including newbies Tethers would just be the norm. The thing to wear to save your skin, limbs and possibly your life.

If you would sign and share I'd super appreciate it. Quick like a bunny easy peasy online petition

Not sure if you'll be successful or not but thanks for trying. All our sleds have tethers :face-icon-small-hap

Thank you so much! I think it is already successful. People, Sledders are working together for a common goal and getting involved in our well being.

I believe the manufacturers will listen. This makes sense, saves lives, and will prevent so many injuries.

thanks for taking the time to sign!

I haven't worried about warring a tether in years pass with the the old 800 r but this year going to the e-tec i decide to start. Its still early and theres already been two times I've done something ware its landed upside down and herd the motor start to rev right before it came undone. Found warring it on the right wrist keeps it out of the way and doesn't get caught in the bars. Im defiantly going to keep using it from now on. What would it cost polaris and cat to put them on from the factory 30 bucks max?

Signed. Last year at one of our local hill-climb events a kid (not participating, just off riding on his own. tethers are required for sanctioned events) rolled the sled on himself. Throttle stuck open, track ate through his backpack, then coat, then 3rd degree burns on most of his back before anyone could get to the sled to get it shut off. He was very lucky his backpack bought him some time. A tether should be STANDARD on all sleds.

spent a couple hours putting them on the g-kids 4 wheelers this past weekend... with snowmobiles I have been underneath them and it was nice the engine was not turning the track

It would be good for the OEMs to review this petition and start putting tethers on the sleds default and make them rugged and robust instead of the stupid dimbass POS rubber pimple ones we've all had from them for the last 40 years. They need to start mounting rugged c-clip style tethers in the center of the consoles.

It wasn't that long ago that mfrs started putting tethers on as standard equipment. I was surprised when they went the other way. I can see it now:

Plaintiff Attorney: Isn't it true that MFR put tethers on the sled as standard equipment?

MFR witness: Yes, MFR did.

Pltf Atty: And, for how many years was the tether standard equipment?

MFR witness: Ten plus.

Pltf Atty: Isn't it true that MFR quit the practice to save, in 1998, two dollars and seventy-eight cents?

MFR witness: Yes.

JURY: Boy, are they gonna pay...

I always wear mine, but I am used to it from racing ATV's. At the stadium races and most nationals, we had to go through tech inspections to make sure they were working. After my Pro Design failed a couple of times, I designed a new one for Pro Armor. So far, it is still the best one on the market. I highly recommend them!

I don't agree with tethers. Sure back in the day there was a purpose but with todays deadman throttles it sure seems outdated IMO. Pros and cons aside I just think they are an item that has passed.

Deadman throttles? They only function if the tention on the cable slacks. If something else pushes the throttle it goes just the same as if it was your hand doing it.

Sled rolls over, after an unscheduled dismount on a hill, lights lid-down and snow packs around the handlebars, pinning the throttle. Meanwhile, you come tumbling down and your arm or leg finds its way into the tunnel extention, housing the track now going over a hundred miles an hour. Now heres the worst part...in days past, the engine would race untill the fuel in the float bowls ran out...now days with EFI, it just sits and runs. So now one of your limbs is trapped inside the tunnel of your sled, pulling full RPM. You're unable to get free...all you can do is scream, watch as your limb is chewed on by this monster that used to be your toy, and pray that one of your buddies gets there soon to dig out your "deadmans throttle" and kill the engine. Heard of things like this happening all too offen, and had too many close calls myself.

Petition signed and shared. Guess we'll see if they listen.
