Teth Air system questions

I think it's dangerous to ride a sled without a tether. My 2012 Pro didn't come with one. I am surprised with all the lawyers in this country Polaris would sell a sled without a tether. That said I HATE clipping in while wearing a helmet. Gotta feel around for the ring etc. I like the idea of the Teth Air system but want to talk to someone first who has one and how reliable it is and how well it works.

Teth air

i checked them out at the last sled show and played with the display system and seems like a good system. I too have a brand new pro and i cant believe they dont have tethers. 300 bucks, having to replace batteries and my trusty electrical skills is what sent me too the dealer for my 45 dollar plug and play tether

the worst part (but also the BEST part i guess) is that Polaris made this a plug and play
like they really couldnt just add the damn tether for another $40?
especially on the RMK's

but like i said, at least its a fairly easy install job w the plug being readily available

Replace the small clip with a carabiner clip. Picked that tip up from this site and it has been one of the easiest big improvements I have made on my sled. And if you do the double carabiner trick you can hook up with your eyes closed and one hand behind your back!

I figured a carabiner would be easier on my own so I did that. I didn't think about 2. The ring is hard for me to feel on my coat or avy vest but a carabiner would be hard to miss. Thanks. I have asked this question before about Teth Air, can't believe no one uses them.

i have them both on my pro and t-nytro

they are great, spendy but great. Ive seen too many stuck throttle mishaps and couple hundred is well spent compared to the damage of a wfo ghost ride that smokes a tree. Ive tried corded and they get hooked on trees and what not. great anti-theft as well.

Where does the teth air get power from?

from the stator, works off ac or dc. there was an open plug with ac up by the steering hoop right by the where the plug is also for the factory/aftermarket tether. I went to the local electrical shop got the correct tyco plug for the power and just used two 1/4 inch straight blades for the tether plug.....all plug and play now.

If there are any other questions I would be happy to answer them.

Just to give a little info for those interested.

The transmitter is a small, wrist worn device that only needs a common CR32 battery once per season. The receiver gets power from the sled. There is a small soft antenna that mounts next to the throttle lever.

Very simple wiring and we have good install info on out website.

We think corded tethers are great too but not many wear them due to laziness, tree mishaps or they just don't have one installed.

About the price, yes it sucks that we can't cut our price in half because there is so much R and D involved, manufacturing costs, FCC costs, Industry Canada costs, etc. etc. But I can tell you that the guys that just rely on insurance, and crash, will be out for a good portion of the season if their sled takes off full throttle. It happens more than you may think, especially these days with the super light throttle pull on the new fuel injected sleds.

Here is what I will do. Mention this forum and we will cover shipping to Canada or the US. Also with the slightly weaker Canuck dollar, the US buyers should make a little on the exchange rate.

Regards,

Chris

how far is the signal? i know a guy that got one and returned it. In the case your sled takes off on you into trees or off a cliff this is fine, in the case your pinned under the sled or something........ your still in the signals range and it wont cut the engine

I asked about this too. You can adjust the range I believe and they also said if you cover the transmitter with your hand or bury it in your gut or coat it will kill the signal. The antenna is right by the throttle block and you wear it on your right hand so it has to be close to work too. Really cool system, bought a couple, will be installing soon. I will post a report when I am done.
