Temprature sending unit wires.

There are 4 wires coming from the unit, each plug has two prongs. One of the ends is plugged in. The other one is a square female two prong plug that is green on the end. I cannot figure out where it is suppose to hooked to?

Or what it is for? Temperature guage?
