Target Clutch Shift

Hey guys, I was wondering what you clutch geniuses think of as the ideal shift rate for when the sled is under a full load pull?? Such as 4 foot of powder and 45 degree hill. Thanks!!
 
not even close to a genius just an amatuer clutcher but I would think when you nail the gas motor should rev to peak hp rpm and stay there...it should upshift and backshift as required to maintain that rpm....I know alot of peeps clutch for peak torque but I want mine at peak hp for track speed and then as it loads and slows I want it to fall to peak torque..
 
Ok but shouldnt the sled be geared in a way that that affect is achieved while a target clutch shift is reached?

theoretically I would guess that up to a point gear ratio doesnt matter..if clutching is right it will always go to target rpm..it is just with steeper gear ratio's it reaches that point sooner(go jump in your 4*4 truck slap it in low range and floor it..it will get to peak shift rpm almost twice as fast as it will with the case in high range...but the engine /clutch doesnt care..it is going to acelerate or die tryingto until it hits its shift point. if you are geared to high for intended load the clutch and motor will work way to hard(excessive heat from load and slippage)..geared to low and it wont reach target speed..
 
As fast and as far as the power output of the engine will allow while maintaining target RPM.
 
So you guys do not gear the sled to pull a certain shift ratio in the clutch? Does anyone know what diameter on the tra and qrs is equal to 1/1 shift?
 
You'd be just a bit short of full shift to be at 1:1. That would be most efficient, but not practical as you would be geared lower than most cases would allow.
 
I think you want to be geared as low as possible without being over 1:1 ratio"overdrive". Otherwise backshifting might become a problem. But I'm no genius.
