Tampico/Ahtanum report - 15/16

Rode Monday

With only a couple inches of new we were surprised to find some great riding. Still finding untouched snow in areas and coverage is great. 7' at the pole.
We went up North Fork early and came down Middle Fork at the end of the day. Middle Fork was brutal! TOTALLY WHOOPED OUT! Hopefully the groomer gets back on it soon.

01/01/2016 Tampico update

New Years day - Jackass was freshly groomed. Reports (firsthand) that the loop was groomed; middle fork good up to Treephones - rough spots above that. North fork was smooth.

One important note: A side by side went up after the groomer on Jack *** - really tore up the road (partially due to the conditions still being to cold to set up). Side by Sides/quads are illegal on groomed trails unless they have ski's for steering (no front tracks) and tracks on the rear! Please take pictures and report any vehicles that are on our trails that do not meet these definitions. Absolutely no wheeled vehicles on our trails.

Weather forecast for the next 2 weeks are for cooler than normal and drier than normal.

Went up today, still fresh snow to be found, just have to look a little. Middle Fork was great grooming-wise. 0* at the parking lot this morning, cold enough to keep the snow soft for now :)

Went up for a ride on New years day and had a total blast... we were welcomed by Blue Bird skies and fresh grooming, it was pretty dang cold, but lots of fun!

A few pics... the first 3 from this weekend, the rest from last weekend...

Any news?
I see the grooming schedule for the week includes middle Fork everyday this week. That would be nice, thinking about riding there tomorrow.

Thanks

We only have so many grooming hrs per season. Unless there is a special event, i think middle fork gets 2 days a week.
Northfork gets half as much grooming as middle fork and jackass gets half as much as northfork.
Hope that helps.

I was going off what the state grooming schedule stated. Thanks either way!

Tampico (user name here on snowest) is on the groomer committee and our snowmobile club Ski-benders. Also the Owner of the Grooming company was at this Tuesdays club meeting. That is where i get my information.

Grooming

Was up Wed . Road was groomed middle fork and north fork . People need to use common sense on the groomed road Taking off full tthroottle jumping up the and back on to the road gunning it just tears up the groomed trail.. So take off slowly like at a traffic light will make the groomed road last longer .. Have a great day riding be safe out there

Good day today despite not much new snow in a while.....

Middle fork grooming was excellent! The best I have seen in a long time!

Tampico Misc update 01/10/2016

Rode jackass yesterday (Saturday); was recently groomed (actually fairly hard). Decent snow up high. Everything pretty much tracked up, even on Nasty Creek Flats.

Am working with the groomer on the Red Saddle issue; apparently he is not currently grooming all the way up to the top.

Forecast for this week is for SnoPark high temps in the low to mid 30's with maybe a little snow. No major dumps anticipated this week.

Summit8rmk was correct on the grooming; we had used about 20% of our funds during the holiday 2 1/2 weeks. We need to schedule our grooming to make it through the season (remember, sled registrations pay for our grooming!).

Jackass groomed trail re-route is still going forward; slight chance this will be in place for next season.

YCGC meeting this Thursday at the Naches Ranger Station, 7pm.; due to other meeting commitments I will not be in attendance.

Want to say Thank You to Mr. Tampico for showing our group of snowmobilers around this past weekend. It was great weather with some good snow. I know most were tied up for the weekend with their event up Chinook Pass but thanks for leaving Tampico free to show us around.
