Tampico 2014-2015 #2

We used 4wheel drive to get to tree phones. 4in of snow when we unloaded, mud when we got back to the truck. And 44°
Had a great time!

Any Tampico locals riding Friday, and willing to show me around? I need to pop my Tampico cherry, never been there because of the commute, your secrets are safe with me. I just need to spin a track, and it seems like your area is getting a fair amount. Let me know, I can get there early.
This friday will be very warm. U will have to drive all the way to eagles nest to unload, so no trailer.
Looks like the following week will bring snow levels down and likely more snow.

There was ~ 1.5 ft of new snow. Some of the heaviest wet snow i have ever ridden.
We had to pound the hills a few times before we could make it to the top.
For me, going down hill was hard. My sled would shovel a few hundred pounds of snow in front of it almost stopping me and preventing me from turning the handle bars.
Here is a pic for people that doubt i had a few hundred pounds of snow in front.

It was definitely a good day and lots of fun.

Yes, definitely some heavy stuff but it was still a good time, although very difficult to see before laying down some tracks. Good luck finding untracked, we hit just about every hill there was in the limited area we have available right now, lol... Good to see some new snow on the ground and I can't believe I'm excited to see a measly 5.5 ft at the pole... that's actually the deepest all season believe it or not. Also surprised how much effort we had to put in to making it out the top of a couple of these hills... it was definitely a full-throttle type of day:face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-hap

Thanks for all the advice on parking and what not. My sister and I got up there on Friday 3-20-15, and because it was her first ride ever, and my first time to the area, we stuck to the roads on the map.

Checked out the area, found the superbowl, little bowl, and had a good time. She managed to get stuck, and roll the sled in the hard spring snow, but had a good time anyhow.

After riding there last friday, I convinced "Brox" that we needed to make a trip over there. The trees are spaced so much further apart than the terrain we usually ride on the west side of the state.

So we let his place in Gig Harbor about 5:10am Saturday, and unloaded at treephones about 9:30am.
It was cold enough that even at 10, the snow was still hard.

Plenty of snow at the cabin near Clover Flats campground (lots of beer cans inside, kind of a bummer on that)

Up on top near Darland / superbowl, the trees were still frozen, even at 11:00am.

Ate lunch watching 94FordGuy and his buddy making tracks in the super bowl -

Then rode over and met them at the top of the bowl. It was nice to meet ya'll.
94FordGuy told us where the snow depth pole was, so we rode over and checked that out.

Met SkiDont and his buddy from Naches (forgot his name). Watched SkiDont make a couple new tracks on his Turboed Pro.

Then we cruised around some more, found a gentle slope with sparsely spaced trees and decided to practice some side hilling. Ditched the jackets because it was so warm.

We found a meadow and another side hill up the hill from the clover flats campground, and Brox decided that he needed to play sidehill guy above the open creek.

then headed back to the snow depth pole on the bench without dropping in from the top, and saw some guys stuck near the top of the hill. Turns out it was a dad and son. It was dad's 2nd ride, and sons first.

Helped pull them out, then went back to the truck. 94FordGuy passed us as we loaded up.

After stopping for dinner at the Roadhouse in Ellensburg, we made it back to Brox's place about 9:45pm! :face-icon-small-sho

Long day trip, but definitely worth it.

There was snow at tree phones?

Went up Sunday 3/29 and unloaded in the snow .7 mi. pasted tree phones to the left little to no gravel good thing because we were on snowbikes. We did not see anyone else all day!

There was snow at tree phones?

In the morning there was, mud and even some dry dusty trail in the afternoon.

Some patches of rock / gravel on the way up, but sled only got to about 155* before we hit solid snow / ice and put the scratchers down.

94FordGuy had driven up further - just past the gate if memory serves - and unloaded with the sled deck there.

I think we were about a few hundred yards out past of tree phones. I'm pretty sure we will be there tomorrow unless we head to Canada. Both are a long drive for us. I will have an open trailer and have know worries based on a few days ago. We were up yesterday not the first like I previously stated. 148 miles on my sled this year. Ouch! Trying desperately to get a few more rides in.
